My kitten's right kidney was removed one month and a half ago.A few days ago she started moaning and rolling around.Sensing something was wrong I took her to the vet.Tests were made urine, blood and others, results:her only kidney was getting bigger since it's working more. She's under treatment and vet.says that it'll get better but there aren't many cases like this in my country which I can compare with and I'd like to know more about it.I'm really CONCERNED!

Keep a very close watch on her. Also, check out a marvelous Yahoo group called FelineCRF. It is primarily for cats with chronic renal failure, instead of acute as your kitten has, but it is a wealth of information and many old-timers on it can give you guidance if you have a question. Your vet, of course, is the best qualified person to tell you what to do. But depending on what country you are in, and how advanced it is, not all vets are up on the latest available treatments such as phosphorus binders, epogen shots, etc., that are used for treating chronic renal failure. Be cautious about taking advice over the internet from unqualified strangers who have never seen your kitten, let alone examined it. But the felineCRF site can help you ask the right questions of your vet.

May I make another suggestion? You may not need it, but I would look up the phone number and address of a nearby emergency vet. I always have that information easily available, either posted on my refrigerator or in my purse along with the directions on how to get there, since in a crisis when minutes count you do not want to be searching for such information. And even if YOU know, if something should happen to your pet while you are away from home, you would want the person who is there to be able to grab the kitten and the directions and go. Since your kitten now only has one kidney, she will be more vulnerable than someone who has both.

All of us including animals are able to live our lives with only one kidney. Once you get the kitten stabilized, things should settle down and your kitten will go back to living a normal life.
