I had puppies that were born in January, and instead of getting rid of them, we got attached. My girl puppy came up missing 3 days ago, and we found her tonight, barely moving, not eating, not drinking, looking like a skeleton with fur (she is a basset hound) I brought her in, bathed her and started force feeding her water with sugar in it. I thought in the bath, that she was bleeding, and after getting her out, realised that she was having bloody diarrhea with vomiting. I am still forcing water in her every 30 min to an hour (about 1/3 oz) I put echinacea in her water, thinking of the immunity boosting properties. We can't afford the after hours er vet, because they literally have to come from out of town to get here. Does anyone have any home remedies to try that have worked. I don't want her to die, I couldn't bear it.

I wanted to add, that I did not breed on purpose. The mama dog was given to me after she had gotten pregnant, before they knew. As far as nt affording, I am not in my hometown, and there is a vets office in the town I am in, but the vet only comes in 2 times a week because he lives a couple hours away.

Also, there are 3 pups, the other 2 were vaccinated, but she was not because she had other health issues that the vet said she had to get under control before she could be vaccinated. She is separated from other puppies, and is now with me in an area where it is easy to bleach the concrete and plastic quickly.

For everyone's information (who might give a rat's butt) those which attacked me due to money issues. Excuse me for being in between paydays. As far as the puppy. THE ER VET met me at the clinic.
It was not a total issue of money, it was the combined issues of money, location I was in, and where the vet lived.
I left the puppy with the vet, hooked up to IV fluids and being given antibiotics.
Those who truly care about the puppy, rather than the nature of person I am, can email me offlist or on yahoo...

Try to give her some unsalted diluted chicken broth and keep giving her water. AND PRAY!!!
First thing in the morning take her to the vet or she will most likely die.
Parvo is a NASTY, terrible, disease. Good luck! I am sorry. :-(
To give you a LITTLE hope....... my grandfather found a puppy once that had parvo and he did the same things I told you and by a miracle this puppy survived. Thats a VERY rare thing to happen. They usually die but she he did live and my grandfather had him for 14 years after that.
********
I couldnt figure out how to email you. I wanted to say that I hope your puppy is feeling better and dont worry about the ignorant people in here who are so quick to jump all over you and accuse when they dont even know your situation. People just like to do that because it makes them feel like they are better than everyone else. I bet you could open up a CLOSET full of terrible things they have done and yet they point fingers at other people. You know when they point their fingers at you they have 3 more pointing right back at them.
Anyhow, I hope things are better!! God Bless!!!

If it's Parvo, there's not much you can do at home. Did you say puppies? As in, many of them? You need to quarantine that sick animal, RIGHT AWAY. You are trying to do the right thing with your poor puppy, but you could be endangering the life of all the other dogs in your home. Parvo is extremely contagious. Most breeders won't sell a single puppy to a home where there has been Parvo in the last four months, and _still_ insist that the whole house be sanitized.
If she's been roaming for a few days, there are a lot of other things it could be as well. You're doing the right thing with the fluids, but leave out the sugar, which will only make things worse for her if her gut's irritated.
Keep her well away (preferably outside or in the garage, if you have one) from any other dogs through the night. Ideally, whoever is taking care of her overnight should not go near the other dogs at all, just in case it is parvo. If she makes it till morning, take her to the vet's. Call ahead of time to let them know you're coming. She'll be seen that much faster, and it will give them time to make the necessary preparations for bringing in a potentially contagious dog.
Best of luck.

Parvo virus is highly contagious and DEADLY, it can stay in the environment (on grass, blankets etc) for months/years. Your pup NEEDS Vet help NOW - there is no home remedy - wrap her in a towel/blanket try to keep her warm and clean, continue with feeding her the water CALL THE VET. 98%( or higher) of pups will die from Parvo. Many pups who have Parvo also have Corona virus at the same time symptoms are similar but not as severe. Most vets especially in emergency cases will allow payment plans. If you love your animals no cost is too much for medical treatment. What was your pup doing outside for three days alone? Why didn't you look sooner? All pets should be treated like children and allowed inside. If your breeding and you can't afford emergency vet bills, spay & neuter all your animals and don't contribute to the over population of unwanted pets in shelters.

Sadly there are no home remedies for parvo you need to get her to the vet she will need IV fluids & antibotics also if your other puppies have been in contact with ther they will need to go to the vet to. I used to work at an animal shelter & we had an outbreak of parvo sadly we weren't able to save the puppies. I hope everything works out for you also you will need to clean where ever the puppy has been with bleach water

I'm not sure why you think it is parvo. Are the other puppies okay?
If your puppy is dehydrated and it sounds like she is she probably needs to be on an IV, however if your unable to get her to a vet clinic than I would suggest that you give her SQ (subcutaneous) fluids (I have pasted a link on how to give subcutaneous fluids) it is better than giving fluids by mouth but still not as good as IV, however the IV you cannot do at home and SQ (subcutaneous) you can.
Give her brown rice with cooked hamburger. Mush it up and feed it to her as a broth or a gruel. It is important to get some nutrients and fluids into her. Keep her warm (with a hot water bottle or a heating pad, on low). She will need small meals many times over the next couple of hours as well as the SQ fluids to keep her hydrated.
I would also suggest that you call the vet and explain that you can't afford to have them come out but would really appreciate any help they would be willing to give you over the phone. Most vets will be happy to help.

Unfortunately there are no home remedies for parvovirus. Get the pup to the vet ASAP. If it survives there are precautions you need to take care of before you bring the dog back into the home ( if it survives). Everything in the house must be wiped down with a bleach solution and I mean everything. Bleach is the only thing that kills the virus. The other pups in the litter, if there are any need to be seen by the vet as well. I got lucky. My puppy survived. Most don't.

Your puppy needs to be seen by a vet ASAP. Considering the urgency, take her to the vet yourself. This may also save you some money. If you haven't done so already, call every vet in the phone book, leave messages if they don't answer, they have to come in on Sunday to feed and care for the animals that are there over the weekend. Maybe, just maybe they will call you back. As far as the emergency vet, tell them your situation, see if you can bring the puppy to them and hopefully they will work out a payment plan. Good Luck. I'll pray for your puppy. MARLA

Parvo kills dogs by dehydrating them. The only hope u have is to be sure you keep her hydrated by forcing pedialyte(unflavored). You may also try children's immodium (1/4 teaspoon every 3 hours). Don't worry too much about food right now, just liquids. If you have access by chance to an I.V. bag and catheter you can give fliuds under skin on her back. That's really all the vet can do for her is to start I.V. fluids. I've seen alot that made it through parvo...and alot not. Good luck.
