I have a felony from a minor drug offence on 11/9/00. I sold a small amount of pot (8 grams) to an undercover cop. i was sentenced in january of 02. I was given the felony because i would not assist the officers in setting up others, therefore i was given an ungraded felony, and it was also my first offense, but i live in a small rural area. i want to join the military but cant because i was given a delivery charge. therefore i want to join the french foriegn legion but need a passport to get there. what do i do?

First, why in the world would you join the french foreign legion? Do you speak fluent french? I knew a man now in prison in Michigan City Indiana whowas in the French Foreign Legion, it made my time in the US Marines seem like a walk in the park.

Instead of fleeing your past just fix it. See what you need to do to receive a pardon from your sentencing court. Often when in quest of a military carreer a court will seal a record from prying eyes to assist you in getting into the military.

You cannot run from your past. The man I know at the prison is currently AWOL from the French Foreign Legion... Once he finishes his sixty year prison term, he faces the death penalty in France for desertion.

Get a grip... what you are talking borders on insane.

Yep, you can. Old felonies don't mean anything. Actually, I got my passport while I had a warrant for my arrest. It was for a misdemeanor, though. But still. You'll be good. My sister has a DUI and a failure to appear in court, and she just got her passport a couple days ago (but she obtained it in a completely different state from her charges, though I doubt if that makes a difference). You'll be straight though.

A felony conviction shouldn't affect your ability to get a passport, as long as you are not on probation. The french foreign legion is a very, very tough life... I'd personally rather be on a chain gang. Talk to your local marine recruiter - you might just be able to get in nowadays, if your record is otherwise clean.

You need to get your citizenship restored. You will need the services of an attorney.

If you are now free and have no restrictions on traveling, you can just apply at the passport office or at some post offices.
