Just a little observation - NOT answering about nude beaches though.
From what I have read here on Y!A, I think you need to define the word "thongs" because I believe "thongs" has a different meaning in Australia.
In Australia, THONGS are a form of footwear.
Just thought I'd mention it.
Cheers

Many nude beaches in all States except Canberra, Men do not wear thongs on Australian beaches and it is also frowned upon for women. We are just heading into winter here now. In Queensland the weather is beautiful one day and perfect the next. Summer clothes with Jeans and a couple of light sweaters. In the southern states it is colder. A week on the Gold Coast staying in a resort would cost you approx $150-$200. daily for accommodation, So $300. per day and you can do anything at all.

There's one right near where I live for starters (yes, I said STARTERS not STARKERS!). Sadly though, one thing you will always discover on a nude beach is that most people look better with their clothes ON. Thongs in Australia are what you would call flip flops, by the way, so yes, we all wear those everywhere - it's the national uniform! Can't help on the Gold Coast, sorry.

Apart from the nudist beaches, many beaches allow women to sunbathe topless. This is usually restricted to part of a beach as it is at Bondi but don't be surprised to see it anywhere.
Thongs are a form of footwear as has been said. If you meant the skimpy clothing item, you might see one or two but you will certainly see speedos which are slightly larger than thongs. Go to watch a surf carnival and all the competitors wear speedos.

Yes there are with the exception of Canberra. Men wear thongs but they don't wear thongs :P. In other words they wear thongs as in the beach footwear (aka flip flops) but they don't wear thongs (g-strings) they do wear spedo's a slightly larger (and more dignifying garment) thank heavens for that that wouldn't be a pretty sight

Llandudno. Haven't been to a nudist beach myself, but I have heard so much about Llandudno. It's quite secluded and apparently you have to walk down a path to get there. Very private. I was with my hubby on an installation job once at a house right next to the nudist beach and you won't believe the number of people that go there. One guy was actually disappointed that there was so many men and almost no women. lol. Add: Ha-Ha. Just shows you how much I know about Nudist Beaches. LOL. Thanks for the info, cakes.
