Is means "the draft" as in coming through an open window.

I am German but I've never really thought about this ... but now that you mention it .... Yes, I think most people do believe that it makes your neck hurt and can cause a cold. Even my vet told me to not leave my bird in a room with an open window because he might get sick if "es zieht".
