If you are elderly......you are in your golden years.

If you are young.....you are a beautiful all around, near perfect young lady. Pops

There was a TV sitcom called the 'Golden Girls' which was about 4 older women who lived together in a house in Miami, and they were single and had dates and exhusbands and other things encountered by the over 60's crowd. It more or less showed that old women don't need a man and can be independant and happy living with each other. So if you are called a 'golden girl' they could be saying you like one of those old women. The TV program is the kind of TV fiction that is popular because it shows an ideal, sort of like the perfect family in 'Leave it to Beaver', in reality, many of the real 'golden girls' are bag ladies living is squalor because they destroyed there marriages for a quick buck (which didn't last) and now, unable to find any man that wants an old bag, or any kind of job that wants an old bag, they just try to survive until they die. America in the 21st century???.

Golden girls are supported, no matter what they do. They have the best of everything without necessarilly having to do anything to earn it. They look good because they are given good clothing and the time to take care of themselves rather than earning a living. They don't have to support themselves or anyone else. They are loved simply for being themselves, whether they are worthy of it or not.

I would take that as a compliment. It means you are as good as gold to a company or to someone who is depending on you.
The derogatory remark would mean that you are a gold digger, You just want guys for their money Honey!
