I have no idea what state you are in, but I will tell you that yes, in some states D.U.I. can mean driving under the influence of drugs. And that includes marijuana, and in some rare cases prescription drugs.

It depends on the state. A D.U.I. means you are above the legal limit in your state. If you are stopped and arrested they might search you and your car. If they find drugs in your car or in your pocket they can and will ask for toxicoligy tests from the hospital they took you to or send for a medical examiner to take samples for testing. You might pass a "Breathalizer" and later on be arrested for D.U.I.G. But it doesen't usualy occur unless there's an accident where someone was harmed.

Im pretty sure its a blanket law...if you drive under the influence of any drug. I think i remember one of my friends being pulled over smokin weed.
but yea...he was canned.
i think that D.U.I. is the least of your worries if you are doing other drugs and driving though, because they can charge all sorts of things like attempted manslaughter or endangering the public against you.
my advice: if you get stoned or trashed do it at home with your keys locked in your car.

Probably depends on the state. In Illinois, it can mean alcohol, drugs, or a combination of both. If drug, any amount will suffice for charges to be filed. Even if you smoked pot 3 days ago. If you still test positive for it, you can still be charged. Of course, the cops would have to have had probable cause for the stop in the first place.

(Text of Section from P.A. 93‑1093 and 94‑963)
Sec. 11‑501. Driving while under the influence of alcohol, other drug or drugs, intoxicating compound or compounds or any combination thereof."

DUI is defined as operating a motor vehicle while impaired by a controlled substance. Alcohol is a drug.
Now, if you were impaired by an illegal drug, you could get a DUI, but most of the time they are focused on filing drug charges.

You can be charged with a DUI for anything, legal, illegal, over the counter, prescription. that inhibits your driving, If you take benadryl and it makes you so sleepy that you are having troubles driving you can be arrested. Police Departments send a few officers to become certified Drug Recognition Experts, they will examine you and find out what you are on.
