Why? Do we have definitive proof that evil spirits are immune? How do we know? Kind of silly for us to assume we know better if we have no more proof than they do, don't you think?
My first version of this answer was ill-informed and carelessly rude, particularly to one of my heroes (military, thank you, Uncle!)
I catch on. Slowly sometimes, but I catch on.
If left the gist of my answer (off the topic) as an object example to others to look at the other posts of the questioner before they jump on them! I shall stand in the corner now.

There are many different ways to be "smart." It really hasn't been that long (for the human species) that we have lived in the light, so to speak. Not the religious LIGHT either. Not long ago, we huddled together in the dark and beat drums or chanted or whatever we did to ward off the fear of the unknown because that worked for us. We are all ancestors of those times, if you know what I mean. Do these smart Americans push back those ideas that would have them rattling bones or beating drums to ward off fear because "that sounds foolish" or it's not the Christian thing to do? I wonder.
Humility is actually a blessing.
Let me finish - Whomever beats the drum is heard and acknowleged. In the dark of night, two is better than one. Yes?
