I've had a 2 year old female lasa absa(sp?) and someone just gave us a 1 year old male shih poo! Neither one fixed! I'm wondering if it would make life easier if I got the female fixed! Or if I should just let them mate! These are my first dogs! Any advice will help!

Fix the MALE. It's a lot easier and saves a lot of territorial troubles in the long run. That's my recommendation.

You shouldn't let them mate unless you really want the puppies.

Life is much simpler if at least one of tha cross sex houshold is "fixed". Now do you know how to tell if a female is in heat? Her vulva will swell and there will be a bloody discharge (may be only a few drops). The chances of a mating with the female not in heat (and it happens every 6 months or so) is zero (though domainance mounts can happen any time). I assure you, both will make major efforts to get togher if she is in heat (and whine, howl and generally be a pain)

DO NOT LET THEM MATE. If these are your first dogs, that is a bad idea. Do you even have papers for them?

You need to fix both of them. This is how animals end up in the street. If you get the female fixed, and the male hops up on a stray female.....

get your dogs fixed.

Yes, you should probably get them fixed. It would be kinda bad one day to end up with a pregnant dog on accident. Letting them mate, unless you are going to keep the dogs would not be in anyones interest. I have to go, so the other answers will tell you about it im sure.

Get them BOTH fixed. Believe me, you'll appreciate it when you don't have to deal with her being in heat and/or him territorially marking everything.

If you can only afford to get one of them fixed, it's generally less expensive and easier recovery to get a male neutered than a female spayed - the surgery is not as invasive.

But getting both of them fixed is ideal.

DO NOT let them mate - there are millions of dogs killed every year as it is because of overpopulation. Don't become part of the problem!

Geez dog, you already have two mutts, why would you want to breed them????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What will become of a lasa absa x shih poo mix, what are those poor dogs anyway???????

Just get them fixed and save yourself a lot of heartaches and troubles. breeding is NOT about getting a male and female dog together (even if same breed)

Get one or both fixed. Breeding dogs is not an easy thing, and not something you want to do if you're not serious about it. It is not an easy thing to keep them separated when the female goes into season. I would suggest getting them fixed. Good Luck.

What the heck.. Or should I just let them mate?? Why cause they aren't registered purebreds, and one is a mixed breed mutt??? That's a good reason to breed them?? Or is it cause they can ?? Or cause they want to ??? Come one.. Get them both fixed.. This is a ridiculous question.. Should I just let them mate ??
You know anyone who wants a puppy out of such an awful mix?? You know 12 people who want a mixed breed puppy??
Fix them both.. Forget breeding more mutts to help further fill up the shelters.. Dogs die daily, dogs are dying this very second, because people like you are just letting their mutts mate...

get them both fixed NOW! there are thousands of dogs that are put down every day because careless and/or lazy and/or misinformed owners allow their animals to mate and aren't prepared to find homes for the puppies and so they end up in overcrowded, poorly funded shelters.

sorry to go on a rant for you, I just have a friend who works at a shelter

hope this helps

There are more pets in the US than there are people looking to get a pet. Dogs are being put to sleep everyday because they can't find homes for them. Fix them both!
