Its like some form of mass hysteria. Its like just before the fall or Rome when they blamed christian for setting the capital on fire. They claimed christian were having sex with corpes. When in reality anyone who knew anthing about christianity would know that is not what a christian would do. With all the romanlike hedodism going on, If you think christians are everywhere controling your life, you better get some professional help.

Because most English speaking atheists come from the Western world where Christianity, in some form or other, has dominated for more than a millenium and, only recently (comparatively speaking), has the separation of government and church been enough to publicly denounce Christianity without fear of legal reprisals. And, because of this fine, uber-lengthy tradition of Christianity (which is much older than modern, heck, Middle English is, by the way), our cultures are so firmly indoctrinated with the Christian mindset that it's oppressive.

The reality is, to be non-Christian in the Western world is to be persecuted. Maybe not like it is to be Christian in, say, Tehran, but the social sanctions are still there. The stigma is still there. Laws that trace themselves to the bible, such as gay marriage, are still there. Even in some places, there is no law against marital rape. The Jesus Salespeople never stop knocking.

That's odd. As an athiest I see athiests everywhere, including the Pope. I'm an athiest, therefore there is no god, therefore anybody who claims to have a relationship with god is a lying athiest. Great way to manipulate people.

Most christians that I know have no bible. They call themselves christian 'by default'. I guarantee you that most christians have never read the bible. If they did, they wouldn't be christians anymore.

P.S. It's been over 2000 years. Where's Mr. Savior? Maybe they don't have calendars in heaven.

P.S.S. Only 10%- 15% of the world population is Christian.

The US is somewhere between 75 and 80% Christian. That's between 225 and 240 million Christians. So if we see them everywhere, it's only because our powers of observation work.

Just to tell you Christians are the current people in power! A lot of the people in power (president+vice president) are Christian. Also, you have no idea what a Christian would or would not do, it doesn't have to do with your religion it has to do with you. Just like how if you are Jewish, it doesn't neccesarily mean you do any Jewsish religious things.
P.S. My parents are Christian so they are controlling my life :-)

I do see more Christians around me than Atheists like myself, but a lot of the Atheists I see are insulting and as radical as any radical religious person. You're right, they probably need therapy. It's open season on Christians right now and that attitude doesn't help anything.

I lived in Alabama for 2 years, skippy.

I am NOT exaggerating when I say that there are, at the very least, 1-2 churches PER BLOCK in the city of Montgomery alone.

Paranoia, my aching rump.

Ok I have three glasses of wine in me...I am just going to run with this.
In America they are everywhere. Especially if you live in the South, AKA Bible Belt. Your church is your idenity. Its a status symbol. Anyone who says different is in denial. One of the first question asked of you is "What church do you go to?" Goddess forbid its not thier church. You are now an outcast. Unless of course you want to come to t hier church?
I don't mean this disrespectfully, but part of me is disgusted with Christians in general. This isn't what Jesus wanted and I think he would be VERY disappointed in what people have done in his name.
Fact is, right now, politics in America is ruled and bullied by conserative Christians. It scares the hell out of me. Everything this country was built on is being chipped away by ppl who swear that this country was founed in Christianity. Even if it was, they wanted seperation of Church and State for a reason. But that isn't good enough. I have ppl show up on my door step, ppl who want thier beliefs taught in school, people who are SO sure they are right, they are willing to stone me in the town square. It makes me sick.
I personally don't believe Jesus was divine, but there is a possiblity that he was sent by the Gods to give us a message. I think what we having going now? Isn't the message. It was a message of love and hope and tolerance. What we have now? It just makes be really really sad. But what can you do? No matter what you say, it falls on deaf ears. I just want to scream at them "Jesus would have listened! Jesus cared what people had to say! Jesus respected his fellow man!" But I have started to give up on my fellow man. The fact is whatever God they believe in WILL judge them. And they might now like how it ends. I simple must have faith in the universe. What else can I do?

They are 80% of the country and about 99% of the government. It would be pretty hard to not see them everywhere.

I don't understand. I am a Christian and I see Christians everywhere. It's the predominant religion of our country, thank God.
