You might take a look at what really constitutes "American" before you go choosing a car made by an American manufacturer. Many "foreign" cars are actually made in the good ole USA and many American cars are actually made in Canada or Mexico. Not to mention the numerous countries where the parts are made.

My uncle had a PT Cruiser for about three months then he traded it because he hated it. The Focus has many fire problems and Ford has been sued. Grand Am's might be OK, but I'd recommend the Malibu because it is right for your budget, reliable, and it will get 30+ mpg.

You can't be so narrow minded. With a global economy these days, nothing is truly an "American" made car any more. Parts are made all over the world and put together in Canada or Mexico. Many Japanese cars are more "American" than the Big 3. In fact, foreign car makers have more plants here than the Big 3. With 8K you can get a pretty reliable Japanese car.

You’ll find that, at a government seized auto auction, there is a huge variety of automobiles available for you to bid on.
