Islam and Christianity, the "daughter" religions of Judaism, have hundreds and thousands of years of war and suppression to their names. The original, Judaism, is peaceful and never made a religious war on those who believe differently.
You have, of course, the Crusades as the prime example.
The reason for the conflict between Israel and the Arabs is that the Arabs, plain and simple, refuse to accept a Jewish state in their midst. They invented this whole idea of a "Palestinian people who deserve a state" just to use as a tool to dismember Israel.
Arab violence against Jews has been going on long before there was an occupation, long before there was a refugee problem--indeed, long before there was a political Zionist movement. Need I present more painful examples? Perhaps even further back, where I hope everyone will agree that the Zionist movement did not yet come into being:
In the centuries after Muhammad there have been periods when the Jews were able to live in relative peace under Arabs, but their position was never secure. They were generally viewed with contempt by their Arab neighbors, and their survival was always predicated on their abject subordination and degradation to them. Mass murders of Jewish "protected people" started in Morocco as early as the eighth century, where Idris I wiped out whole communities. A century later Baghdad's Caliph al-Mutawakkil designated a yellow badge for Jews (setting a precedent that would be followed centuries later in Nazi Germany), and synagogues were destroyed throughout Mesopotamia in 854-859. In Tripolitania, Jews were considered the property of their Arab masters, who would bequeath the Jews to their heirs upon death. In the 12th century, after anti-Jewish riots, the contemporaries commented that their population had 'greatly declined.' ( Middle East Digest, September 1999)
As to how to solve the problem, the only way would be for Israel to defeat the Arabs overwhelmingly, and then dictate the terms for peace. Otherwise, the Arabs will never stop trying to destroy Israel.

Perhaps it is because you are blatently challenging their beliefs, when you haven't the right to do that of anyone, no matter what question you are asking.
True, you are only asking for proof, but for those who believe without a doubt of their faith, and what they have learned all of their lives, there is no need for any proof.
The same for any of the gods out there, because someone requires proof of their existence, there is not any guarantee that they will recieve it on their whim. All answers are supposed to be sought after, and nothing is handed to you just because you want that, especially not in the way of any religion.
The second one you said, not everyone has heard of the Crusades, I didn't know of them until 10 or so years ago, so it is not surprising that the person you asked didn't knwo what you meant.
Just as she then said "oh, it's good," is just an indication that of the faith she believes in, let alone how many people died as a result.
Christians could amaze you in some of the things they say, but I'm sure you could find a lot more worthwhile things to occupy your mind than find proof of existence in a faith you don't even practice.

Voodewch... best answer so far. But to add to it, I'd say it's like asking someone who can swim to prove it when they're in the middle of the desert. The means aren't there. The person isn't equipped. No person would be. By the same token, you wouldn't be able to prove the person couldn't swim - for the same reason.
There is no proof. There is considerable evidence - more support than any other belief system can claim - but no proof. I can show you my child who - by all the laws of nature should not exist - but that wouldn't prove anything to you. But since I have opted not to restrict my thinking to mere physics and biology, I understand that there are other forces at work. I can't explain them, but I can't explain quantum physics either. Doesn't mean it isn't true.
My next question to the girl who thought the crusades were good would be "And which rock did you crawl out from under?" Pathetic.

All Christians do not become defensive. Some Christians - but not all -
Some Christians find it a challenge to "prove" the concepts are true.
But, it is easy to end up in a verbal battle because the issue isn't really the "proof", it is what you believe. There is proof to be found for everything any person wants to believe.
There is a difference for a person asking the question just to understand, and asking the person to provide "proof".
Attitude is very important when discussing sensitive issues.

There is actually topographical, internal, external, and bibliographical evidence of the Bible along with prophecy's that have been fulfilled in the Old Testament. The crusades were led by the pope, and they technically weren't "Christian" but "Catholic". Catholicism is very different than modern Christianity. True Christians would never take a radical approach such as a "crusade" to try and convert. Disciples in the Bible were loving human beings who spread the word of Jesus Christ because they were physically with Jesus and saw all the amazing things He did. Catholicism twists a lot of things in the Bible, and takes a lot of verses out of context. Seems to me you've never actually talked to a Professor of Theology, or just anyone with a good understanding of the Bible's makeup. I encourage you to find a pastor to talk to if you are truly interested in learning about the Bible, or a Bible scholar for that matter. There are findings and recordings of Jesus of Nazareth that go back up to 2000 years ago. There's also significant evidence of a world wide flood(Noah). Many MANY other examples of physical evidence, but I'm no theologian. Faith plays a part in what we believe, but there is evidence of the Bibles truth if you break it down into a time line and compare it to events that were occurring in the world at the same time. Christians that don't have a strong understanding of the Bible are the ones who say "well, you just need more faith". Truth is, there are many Christians who are spiritually immature, and they can't defend there own faith. If you can't defend your own faith in a real world setting, you probably aren't studying the Bible enough! It takes years and years of study to develop a keen understanding of the Bible. It doesn't come over night. If you really want a good understanding, study Hebrew and Greek alongside a good Biblical study class. It's easy to bash Christians that can't defend their own faith and studder when finding the correct answers. It's another thing to challenge a Bible Theologian. Take an apologetics class, or a class on creation, or a class on an individual book of the Bible. Lots of knowledge out there if you're truly seeking it. There's more to God than blind faith. Are you willing to find out more is the question.

Well, probably because the "proof" you so desperately want in not available at this time.
Truth comes in four flavors:
If a truth is the perception that “it is so,” there are different types/levels of truth.
1. Personal truth
2. Social truth
3. Human truth
4. Universal truth
You want proof based in #4 but it does not apply to the existence of God. Spiritual matters in general and God in particular do not conform to mathematical proofs.
There is however, tons of proof based in #1-3. All you have to do is study it.
oops bad word, study. Sounds like work. That is because it is. It is much easier to sit on your duff and pen inane, irrelevant and irreverent questions such as this one.
All in all, just another brick in the wall.

A very fair question and I welcome it as a Christian. Please note however that we for our part find it incredibly tiresome that non-believers keep asking for "proof"! I regret that you have met with hostile or defensive responses; no doubt that would proceed from insecurity. Mainstream Protestants, and probably most Catholics, are more secure and most would respond as I will: it is like the old metaphor about apples and oranges. The question when you bring up proof is inevitably premised on a dichotomy between faith and knowledge. Faith is a form of trust. You are not trusting someone if you already know there is no risk, that they are for example entirely reliable. Trust is not entirely the same as faith but the difference is really just degree. Let me put it this way: if God is "provable" there is no meaning to the concept of faith. I understand your aggravation but look at ours! Atheists think in highly materialist terms and faith is entirely abstract. Mostly however,I want to stress that asking a religious person - of any faith - what about proof? is a bit like asking a cook what's wrong with your car. Faith/knowledge - two different genres. You can compare two movies,or two symphonies but how do you compare a movie and a symphony?

I can give you proof that the Bible is the truth. A lot of things have been predicted by the people named in the Bible and that was a gift from God for them to prophesy. Each item predicted in the Bible has come true. No seer or false prophet has even come close to being correct 4% of the things they have predicted in their time..
Apparently you are not asking the right people. The Bible is the word of God, undisputed. those who put the words on paper were given the insight from the Holy spirit to the truth as they wrote. Mankind did not invent the Bible, mankind was given the Bible as a reference to live their life in accordance with Gods word. It does bother me that people who are blind to the truth question its validity. but then it just gives me one more person to pray for every day. You asked for Proof. did you wake up this morning? Did you have trouble breathing? We are not guaranteed tomorrow, so when you doubt the word of God then you doubt God, When you die, you will stand before him and answer to you sins. I will pray that before you die you will open your mind to the truth and then God will open your eyes and ears. I pray you will accept Christ as your savior. I care enough that you should not go to Hell on you own accord. God cares even more than I do its called Agape Love>

No one is obligated to provide proof of their faith to a non believer. And as it is a matter of faith, no proof would be satisfactory to you. But you already know that. The intent of your question is not to get the answer you seek, but to make the believer question his/her faith. That's what sparks the hostility you speak of.
So instead of asking for proof. Ask why they believe. Then listen.

Because Christian's religion is based on faith, not on fact. They dont have proof. They become uncomfortable when you ask for proof because it is an insult to what they believe in.
