Yeah ok, but the question is about using a lie/deception as a strategy ... is that something God approves off? God delivered him even though he lied?

No, God hates lies no matter who tells them. Even though people tell lies everyday, just think about how merciful God is each and everyday towards the liar. You may tell a lie and think that you are getting away with it, but you still have to reap what you sow from that lie. You may tell lies now, but there is a season where they will come back on you, even with David. God loves us despite our sins and short comings. When He looks at us, He sees us at our best potential and as finished products. And uses uses the flaws in our character as a tool to chastise us and correct us as we are moving toward His plan for our life. The Lord is not surprised by the sins of men, nor did it sneak up on Him. Even before you are born, God knows all the mistakes you are going to make and He still chooses people out of the world, no matter what they have done in their past.

David sinned all his life the same way anyone else does, the same as I do. It's not about specific sins. I keep telling everyone this, I guess it's your turn.
That's why we need Jesus, to atone for our sins. We get that by believing God, by trusting Him. That's the same way David was saved, and Abraham was saved, and any Old Testament person was saved.
And that's the way were are saved, by trusting God. It has nothing to do with acting perfect. According to the Bible, we can't even fake perfection. Jesus was perfect to provide us a way to make peace with God.
