No, it was decided to defeat the enemy in one theater of war then concentrate on the other. And because of the the European nations and Russia's priority was the European theater efforts were concentrated there first. The was agreed to during the Arcadia Conference held in Washington, D.C. from December 22, 1941 to January 14, 1942 between the heads of government of the United Kingdom and the United States. Despite the recent attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States agreed that to win the war, the prime objective was the defeat of Nazi Germany (Europe first strategy). They also agreed to combine military resources under one command for the ETO .

The US agreed to help our European allies defeat Germany. But there was no way we were going to let Japan have the Far East. We did a very good job of fighting a two front war. We invaded Guadalcanal on August 7, 1942. This was three months before the invasion of North Africa on November 8, 1942. If we had just fought to beat Germany as the first priority do you think Japan would have been defeated three months later? We were able to do what Germany could not do, fight a two front war. It took the rest of the world to defeat Germany, but it took the US, the Aussies and the Brits to beat the Japs. The Aussies fought in Borneo and other southeast areas. The Brits and Indian forces fought in Burma. The US went island hopping up the Pacific. This occurred at the same time that the Russians were fighting on the eastern front, the allies were taking North Africa, invading Italy, and hitting the beaches of Normandy. And yes, the US had troops there too. Who would have won WWII if Japan had not done the sneak attack on Pear Harbor and brought the US into the war?

Japan was not as technologically advanced as Germany.

Germany was developing a number of new technologies, such as the jet engine, the atomic bomb, the rocket, the V-1 and the V-2 etc. They had the best chemical industry in the world, and serious scientific expertese. They had also developed the best tanks in the world and their navy was second to none in terms of quality.

The allied leaders looked at Germany and Japan and they figured that it was a lot more likely that Germany would come up with some sort of super weapon that could wipe out the allies than the Japanese were.

Also the Germans had already taken over most of the industrialized world, the Japanese were taking places like China and Vietnam that had raw materials, but no industrial capability. The Germans could use those factories against us, the resources the Japanese took we could buy elsewhere or find substitutes for.

Lastly, the Germans had knocked France out of the war allready, there was a chance they might knock out England and or Russia. The Japanese had a shot at taking Australia at one point, but the fall of Australia would not have been as devistating to the Allied war effort as the fall of Russia or England would have been.

Maybe I read a different history book, but here's what I remember learning about that Germany, Italy, and Japan were all the Major Axis powers- now the US went after Germany before retaliating again Japan because of what Hitler had already accomplished in such a short amount of time, after Germany declared war on the US... we decided they were a bigger threat at the time... as far as Italy... as least they smarted up and came to the right side

since i lived thru that time. I can tell you first hand that altho Hitler was a threat. the Japs attacked us first. However, at that time there were great military minds who knew better and Knew that Hitler and his minions were what was at the heart of it. Japan only signed the agreement after Hitler came to power. So it made sense that we had to hit the target. Yet. japan decided to attack us to prove their military might. Too bad. Yea they got pearl harbor. but we knew the socialist (so called) regime was in control. and they call us americans stupid. LOL
