So let's see, I have been called weak, foolish, and even retarded. You guys are very tolerant and enlightened. What is really funny is the person who called Christians "retarded" doesn't know, or use, basic puncuation and grammar skills.

Lots of reasons...
1. It's ABOUT R&S, not FOR R&S
2. Religion is *Dangerous* and affects us all.
3. To learn about many varied views.
4. To teach about ToE, BB Cosmology, Atheism (all asked!)
5. To point out e.g. The Bible wants 2/3 of all humanity KILLED.
6. To provide a voice when Islam, JW, Mormons are bashed.
7. It's *such* a fun way to spend a Saturday evening.
DO YOU SOMEHOW HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT?

As much as our Holy roller friends, in the way of trying to get there particular view and take on the issue across. In the end all the proselytizing and book bashing, gets you to some total of walking into a brick wall. People are by nature. one individual entity, and with that comes the freedom of independent choice to do or not to do, by simply pounding people with a particular view or typical dry answer will certainly and verily never convince them because for the most part, most of us are here to share and give thoughtful and insightful questions and answers. But all things considered its better stand for something than fall for anything. Isn't?

Atheists cannot grasp how a G-d can exist. Christians cannot explain how a G-d can. No atheist has ever proved that G-d does not exist. No Christian can prove that G-d does exist. It is because of this atheists, like Nietzsche, announce the maxim, 'Ecce Homo' while Christians, like Graham, announce their own, 'Ecce Deus'. In the end there is only a stale mate and hurt feelings. As to why atheists spend time in the religious section? Maybe to talk about whether G-d exists or doesn't exist.

Because the lies and misinformation they adhere to are a dangerous path filled with ignorance, corruption and manipulation of the weak and foolish..!
The plain facts are that any TRUE scientific arguments put forward here, far outweigh the psuedo science, lies and misinformation that believers, particularly creationists, claim to be true.
Yet here we are, dealing with infantile creationists concepts that constitute child abuse when forced upon young curious minds.
They are very foolish people, yet have no concept of the fact, so they NEED education..!!

probably the reason you stated. The same reason christians try to save everyone. If you like christianity you want other people to be happy so you try to share it. Atheist like their views equally and want to share. Especially if they were ever deluded into religion. They realize how much of their life was wasted on a fruitless quest and hope to help others come to the same realization.

Politics mostly. If I could live my life with Christians screwing with science class, wanting to mandate there faerie tale be taught in school, and about 50 other things, I would love to just ignore you. But right now, that is quite impossible and it would be dangerous.
And in a way yes. I do like spreading the good news that that tyrant in the Old Testament is imaginary.

They are here to learn
proselytize
INTRANSITIVE VERB: 1. To induce someone to convert to one's own religious faith.
By definition Atheists cannot proselytize
edit: your definition added: "cause" thus you are technically correct.

"The function of R&S is to provide opportunities to denigrate the Christian faith. There are no attacks on Judaism,Wicca,Paganism, etc. nor are they tolerated; even mild criticism of these faiths will result in immediate account deletion."
Grendel - what version of R&S are YOU reading???

because we have to defend ourselves from dumbass Christians who go "EVOLUTION IS FALSE MY GRANDFATHER WAS NOT A MONKEY" and dumbass atheists who say "CHRISTIANS ARE RETARDS". Both of them are wrong, and i ridicule them both. I think the real Christians here and the real Atheists here are in a secret competition to make up the funniest answers to ridicule the dumbasses.
