I have a 1991 gmc tracker 4 wheel drive automatic. After driving it for a while it will stall. It will take a while befor it will start again, I was told by the machanic that the problem was with the computer. Changed the computer numarouse times but nothing changes it will still stall and it still takes a while befor it turnes on again.I put in a new gas tank, new sending units, new fuel filters but still no change. The fule pump was tested and everything is fine.I think that somthing on it may be shorting out the computers.

Does anyone out there have a similer problem or Does anyone had a similer problem and if possiable Can Someone find the blue prints or diagram or Any Information on the electrical and the fuel line.

Much appreciated!!

I own a shop, and think you need to change mechanics. I have seen this problem many times, and even had one towed 400 miles to me to fix, and I had it running in 20 minutes. The problem is the ignition module is bad. It will run until it gets hot, and then it stops working. Let it cool down and it works again. Have a new module installed in it, and don't take no for an answer. When the module is cold it will test good, and this is what throws them off.
Glad to help out, Good luck!!!

Check the ground for the fuel pump and relay and wire harness connectors for corrosion...often times on older vehicles especially in states where they salt the roads you'll get corrosion in the wire connectors or bad grounds and it will give you intermittent stalling and restarting. Try wirediagram.com for schematics and eautorepair.com for online access to factory shop manual for a fee. I would also try to hook up an electrical fuel pressure gauge to the fuel line at the engine and run it inside the car to observe the fuel pressure when this problem occurs--see if the pressure drops to cause the stalling. Could also be engine heat related problem...some ignition components such as coils and modules are fine when cool but once the engine warms up, the heat causes internal resistance problems with these items and they won't function correctly till cool again. Get a can of compressed air for cleaning keyboards at a Best Buy or Staples and when the stalling occurs, spray the air from the can onto the ignition coil or module(if externally mounted) and see what effect it has....the compressed air will come out rather cold if sprayed for a half minute or so and cool the items. I hope the mechanic didn't charge you for not fixing your car. Hope this helps, Paul

Ok, still need more information...When it stalls, I don't understand what you mean about turns on again? Do you mean its won't spin over, or it will spin over but not crank, -please explain? While waiting for you to answer, I will get my manual out..email me back please...gotspeed7883@yahoo.com
