Plenty of things touch religion and other such "controversial topics" but why do we worry so much? Granted alot of other people are offended, but do we not have a sufficient understanding to allow ourselves to be able to repel religion if see fit? IN other words, have we not grown up since then? I guess not. People seem willing to cling, regardless. Still....can't we move on? WTF?

I'm *much* more worried about the things religion touches...
They affect ALL OF US.

Very much agreed. Thank you for asking this. You'll be seeing some angry backlash from the religious community.

It is my belief that people cling to religion, in instances of fear, and because they know nothing else. This is what they were taught, and they don't dare stray from it. Religion offers hope and a sense of fulfillment in an otherwise ordinary and boring life. When there is no answer, no hope, when these people are at their last end, when life is at it's worst, believing in something more makes living worthwhile.

It takes a strong individual to live, and cope without being told how to do so. I am an atheist, I am proud of my beliefs. I am a good person, yet I'd be sworn off as a Satan worshiper by a highly religious individual. Which is ridiculous to say the least.

I am not against what churches, and religion teaches. But why do they need to be taught these things? Aren't the ten commandments common courtesy? Common morals?

What I am against, are churches themselves. Churches are businesses, and all businesses care about is profit. It's sad.

Although what bothers me most about religion, is when somebody introduces it into politics... That angers me to no end. What ever happened to seperation of church and state? Apparently they have yet to grow up...

These people would rather believe fairy tales than experience the real world.

I recognized the stupidity of religion when I was 10 years old....probably before that.
44 years later it continues to haunt the world but has never interrupted my personal life, happiness etc.

I am without a doubt the happiest man on Earth.

But I find the whole phenomena of religion variously entertaining interesting and laughably stupid.....I see the whole picture...how and why religion developed why it still exists etc...I think trying to "educate" religious people on forums like yahooquestions is a lot of fun.

Unfortunately religion impacts billions of people in very negative ways and many of the victims are "believers" themselves. I can't take responsibility for their misery. I neither caused it nor can I stop it.

The one downside is that being a convinced atheist is rather terrifying. I do not enjoy rationally contemplating the fact that death is the eternal forever black unconscious end.

I worry about some people...

I believe that we all lived with God the Father in Heaven before we came to this world to get the Gift of a Physical body...

I believe that I made friends there and each of us said that if we found out about Christ that we would spread the word to our friends if possible.. I worry that I will be unable to reach my friends without a lot of help from others...

I also worry about people that I know now.. those to whom I do not talk about Jesus enough.. because there will come a day when we will know the truth.. but it will be too late for them at that time...

You have the choice.. we just try to help you back to the path to following Jesus.

One is free to worship as one pleases - or not at all - in any free society. It strikes all religious people of whatever faith as bizarre that there are many non-believers who exhibit an extreme and arguably morbid preoccupation with the idea that people should not be practicing any faith. They would appear to be motivated by a kind of fascistic mentality - others must be as I am;I will tolerate no diversity, etc.

If you don't care for religion why do you post here?
I can tell that it is a important part of your life.
If it was not then you would have more important things to do with your life than worry about tooth fairies or Bigfoot.

People cause the problems of the world. not religion. people may do bad things in the name of religion but its just them trying to justify their evil.
Atheist have committed mass murders in the name of no god.
Does that make atheism as evil as religion?

The big three of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are destroying the earth and the people living on it. If we can cripple these, then there will be less war and violence in the world.

It is easier to worry about what cannot be proved then to accept responsibility for the messes we make of our lives and world.
