there are 17 different tenses in Spanish:
Indicative: presente, pretérito perfecto compuesto, pretérito imperfecto, pretérito pluscuamperfecto, pretérito perfecto simple, pretérito anterior, futuro, futuro perfecto
Subjunctive: presente, pretérito perfecto, pretérito imperfecto, pretérito pluscuamperfecto, futuro, futuro perfecto
Conditional: condicional, condicional compuesto
Imperative: Imperativo
If you consider the infinitive form then you have 18, and if you consider the continous tenses (like in english: i'm running, i was runnig, i will be running), then you have to duplicate the number of the tenses (another 17) then you'd have 35
Hope that helps ;)

There are no problems with the tenses. The problem is the way the gramaticians name them. But you will not be wrong if consider the following tenses:
INDICATIVE MODE
Present Yo amo
Past imperfect Yo amaba
Future simple Yo amaré
Past perfect Yo amé, Yo he amado
Past plusquamperfect Yo habÃa amado
Future composed Yo habré amado
SUBJUNCTIVE MODE
Present Yo ame (without the accent sign)
Past Yo amara
Past perfect Yo haya amado
Past plusquamperfect Yo hubiera o hubiese amado.
POTENTIAL MODE
Simple Yo amarÃa
Composed Yo habrÃa amado
PARTICIPLE MODE
Present Amante
Past Amado, amada
GERUNDE MODE
Present Amando
Past Habiendo amado
INFINITIVE MODE
Present Amar
Past Haber amado
Future Haber de amar
