Yes, but not necessarily religions. The philosophies and life lessons on earlier society gave rise to their own morality stories and life lessons to pass on to generations unborn. All of the books of the Bible can be traced to written records of earlier civilizations. If you saw the De Vinci Code, you would have heard about Emperor Constantine decreeing what books would comprise the Bible we know. But the other books still remained in libraries and caves (Dead Sea) and offer alternate versions of answers to the questions: Where did we come? Where are we going? How long do we have? The ancient Greeks asked those questions, after the Egyptians asked them, after the Sumerians, after the.....the list goes on and on. And let's not forget Buddha and Islam. They have their own answers. One thing remains constant. The priests kept information from the populace, and fear of heavenly punishment was always the tool to keep order before laws largely supplanted the need.

Parts of it, yes. The creation story, for instance, is derived from an older Sumerian myth and from other near-Eastern myth. The later you get, the less of the Bible is derived from earlier sources.

The Bible does carry strong literary relationships with that of pagan neighbors. I can think of several examples if you want to discuss them. I was a biblical studies major. Learning about these relationships strengthened my belief in the veracity of the Old Testament, even the Pentateuch.

Yes. Even the story of Jesus, including details like the star, the three wise men, the manger, the virgin birth, the crucifixion and the resurrection - ALL of it comes from older Pagan myths. The difference is that the Pagans understood (understand) that these are myths. Christians do not.

Earlier? Hmmm... Christianity has its' beginnings with Adam and Eve.. but then much was lost (or drowned out by Idol worship).. but God's word has been around with ALL of the Prophets (even though many of them were illiterate and did not write down their own words but rather hired a scribe to do it for them)...

However, Satanism is just about as old.
