A Psychiatrist has an MD. and is a medical doctor a psychologist may have a doctorate but is not a medical doctor.

A psychiatrist has the ability to write prescriptions as to where a psychologist can not. I would always go with a psychiatrist. So if a med. is needed, you do not have to see your regular doc for it.

Psychiatrist is an MD who specalizes in Psychiatry much like a GYN specializes in women. The psych doc went to medical school just like everyone else then got special training in Psych, A psychologist is a person who went to and got his BS or MS or Phd degree in therapy but is not an MD.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor and can prescribe medication, etc. A psychologist is not a trained medical doctor, but does therapy, etc.

A psychologist is a scientist who studies the human mind. A psychiatrist is a person who makes money by pretending to be able to "fix" people's neuroses by listening to them and nodding sagely every now and then.

A psychiatrist can prescribe medicine. A psychologist focuses on therapy and can't prescribe.

A psychologist usually has a Master's Degree and cannot prescribe meds. Their niche is counselling.

psychiatrist is one who has been through actual medical school and is able to write prescriptions. A psychologist gets his/her masters I believe (or goes through a comparable education program)

It's very simple , both are able to help you with your psychological problems, but only one (psychiatrist) can write a prescription to help you cope with them if he/she deems it beneficial to you.
