The lifespan depends upon the lifespan of the battery. We used to have them at work, and found that we were able to rely on them for several years, before we had to get the battery serviced or replaced.

For me, it lasted anywhere from 3 to 5 years. I never had one die before 3 years or had one last longer than 5 years.

Assuming you are talking about consumer grade UPS, you *can* replace a battery but often, the cost of the entire unit on discount is not much higher than the cost of replacement batteries.
