Hi. I'm Caressa an American convert (before I met my husband just to clarify). I think you are asking mainly about the hijab- the head scarf but I do want to let you know first that Purdah is seclusion and the veil is also a seperate issue as only a small minority of Muslim women believe it is necessary let alone required. Purdah is also not required. The head scarf to the majority including myself is required. There are many reasons for wearing it and for me I feel my hair is much more special when shared only with my family. Whether intentions are pure evil or sinful the person doing the sinning is the one to blame. There are many pious women who cover and whom do not, and many women who appear pious and are covering who are quite the contrary. But this is the truth in any faith. Yes, there are some men making their wives cover but it not their duty to make them nor should they. It is their duty to let us know how they feel about it and encourage us to do what is right. But encouraging should not be taken out of context. In fact, for certain reasons many muslims believe it is acceptable to remove the scarf. You mentioned rape also...of course the man is guilty. The problem you are referring to is not the religion itself but in uneducated Muslims. As in any faith it comes down to knowledge and knowledge is true power and it's required of our faith. The first thing Muslims are told to do is read, read in the name of God. God instructed us to learn. Many Muslims have been misguided because they didn't follow this command, and usually their children weren't taught correctly and so on. Some of those children sought their own knowledge, some finding truth, some finding falsehood, especially if illiterate. We could discuss that forever though. I can say though from teaching myself primarily about Islam though that what I am saying is accurate. Thanks for asking too because it's always best to go to the source!

The hijab shoud be worn because Allah ordered women to cover, it doesnt have anything to do with man. Any woman who covers for a man is covering for the wrong reason and she will not be rewarded for it. Any woman who uncovers for a man is uncovering for the wrong reason, she will have to answer to Allah for it. It has nothing to do with a man.

I wondered that about nuns who wear all black and huge black robes. Why do Catholic nuns wear those things?
the only conclusions I can come to is to get attention and have everyone say look how holy they are. Now it other countrys they probably do it because there husbands demand it. Kind of a control thing. See, I have control over this person.

It is not a man's fault for giving in to temptation. After all, even adam did that. It is the woman's fault for being the temptress. Don't christians forever blame women for the evil eve giving in to temptation and then enticing the poor innocent adam into sin.
