Though I believe in Jesus Christ, I have noticed many things about Christianity that has driven me further away from organized religion and more into just reading the bible for myself and getting what I get from it for myself.
Why do we keep Easter as a Holiday even though it was a pagen Holiday, and the bible has no mention that it should be a holiday? Why do we keep Christmas even though it was meant for the same and 12/25 is the date meant for some Pagen God and we do not even know when Jesus was born? Why do we keep Sunday as the Sabbath when it is really Saturday as it is for the Jews? Why do we use months named after Pagen Gods and days named for Pagen Gods?
All of this happened to help turn the Pagens over to Christianity, so that they could have something to relate to. Why do we keep these traditions when God says in the bible not to? Are we all damning ourselves and do not know it?

But the problem is that the bible clearly states that you should NOT keep ANY PAGEN TRADITIONS. Let me just find the verse so that you all can read it.

And to the girl that asked if this was what is in my heart that matters and it is. I believe that we should not keep any pagen traditions because they were meant for Gods that are not real. It should not be acceptable by the church.

I can not find the exact verse because the Bible is so big but here are some that help.
" See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ." Colossians 2:8
"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:..." Revelation 22:18

I think that the Christians that are getting mad at this are getting mad because they know it is the truth. Please do research. I think that you deserve to know.

Here is the Watchtower's point of view:
Should We Celebrate Holidays?
THE Bible is not the source of popular religious and secular holidays that are celebrated in many parts of the world today. What, then, is the origin of such celebrations? If you have access to a library, you will find it interesting to note what reference books say about holidays that are popular where you live. Consider a few examples.
Easter. “There is no indication of the observance of the Easter festival in the New Testament,” states The Encyclopædia Britannica. How did Easter get started? It is rooted in pagan worship. While this holiday is supposed to commemorate Jesus’ resurrection, the customs associated with the Easter season are not Christian. For instance, concerning the popular “Easter bunny,” The Catholic Encyclopedia says: “The rabbit is a pagan symbol and has always been an emblem of fertility.”
New Year’s Celebrations. The date and customs associated with New Year’s celebrations vary from one country to another. Regarding the origin of this celebration, The World Book Encyclopedia states: “The Roman ruler Julius Caesar established January 1 as New Year’s Day in 46 B.C. The Romans dedicated this day to Janus, the god of gates, doors, and beginnings. The month of January was named after Janus, who had two faces—one looking forward and the other looking backward.” So New Year’s celebrations are founded on pagan traditions.
Halloween. The Encyclopedia Americana says: “Elements of the customs connected with Halloween can be traced to a Druid [ancient Celtic priesthood] ceremony in pre-Christian times. The Celts had festivals for two major gods—a sun god and a god of the dead . . . , whose festival was held on November 1, the beginning of the Celtic New Year. The festival of the dead was gradually incorporated into Christian ritual.”
Other Holidays. It is not possible to discuss all the observances held throughout the world. However, holidays that exalt humans or human organizations are not acceptable to Jehovah. (Jeremiah 17:5-7; Acts 10:25, 26) Keep in mind, too, that the origin of religious celebrations has a bearing on whether they please God or not. (Isaiah 52:11; Revelation 18:4)

I'm sorry, but I just had to comment on one particular comment somebody made, to the effect of:
"It's not like we're still practicing the Pagan rituals!"
AH HA HA that's so funny. Where do you think mistletoe came from, or the Yule log, or evergreens, or gift-giving, parties, etc. etc. WOW people's ignorance is so amusing sometimes...
Anyway. I'm an agnostic so I don't really care whether so-called Christian holidays were once pagan. It's amusing, in fact. It would be even more amusing were it not for the fact that most people are too stupid to know this.

Why do we keep easter? I don't think we 'keep' it, it is just a time during the year where we focus on the lessons of the cross... some make a much 'bigger deal' of the actual day... while others use the lesson of the cross to usher in more truths about Christ... not focused on the 'bunny, eggs, chocolate' . it is celebrated at that time because it is a way for us a Christians to focus on CHRIST and not on the pagan/world focus.
why do we keep Christmas? again, it is just a time we remember and teach how God fulfilled prophecy in the conception and birth of Jesus.... lessons of the birth and WHY Jesus came to earth... but the focus shouldnt be 'the holiday' it should be Jesus and remembering, studying his beginning which lead to why he came in the first place. the 'date' isnt biblical nor is it important as a whole, it is just a day to remember, but not focus on a tree or whatever... and isnt even necessary, if you don't want it..... but to disregard others because they choose to celebrate the birth at that time is not very Christian either....
Why do we keep 'sunday' as sabbath? We don't. God 'gave' us our day of rest.... He didnt set it as saturday or sunday or tuesday... but wants us to take that time for ourselves, to be renewed and refreshed. it matters not to God which day we 'pick'...
I thought months and days were 'named' during the time of Ceasar....

That's a crock of crap!
Christians wanted separate days to celebrate the birth and Crucifixion but were relegated to these pagan days of celebration by the government of the time because they didn't want Christians to take a separate day off from work.
Tell me what is so wrong about actually taking them over and changing them into something more acceptable? Same thing with Sundays. Pagans forced this crap on Christians way back and now they want to whine and complain because they got taken over.
It is what is in your heart that matters.

Your right why does Christianity teaches thing that are contrary to the word of God. There are many false prophets out there that are teaching another Jesus.
Even the bible said
2Cor11:1Would to God ye could bear with me a little in my folly: and indeed bear with me.
2Cor11: 2For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.
2Cor11: 3But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
2Cor11:4For if he that cometh preacheth ANOTHER JESUS, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.
There people out there that teaches a false gospel, a false spirit and a false Jesus.

First off church is important...the bible even says so. Christan holidays were built around pagans holiday dates to draw pagans into the Gospel. As far as I know the bible doesn't say to celebrate any Christian holidays but that doesn't make them any less important to the faith. They are a time man has created to reflect on Jesus...there is nothing wrong with that

It doesn't undermine the true meaning of Christmas to celebrate Christmas on what once was a Pagan holiday!! All that the early church did was steal a date! It's not like we're still practicing the Pagan rituals!!
And while the bible may not say "celebrate Christmas on December the 25th", why WOULDN'T you want to celebrate the birth and resurrection of your savior?!

cody...
decorating your home with the trimmings of trees, feasting, and the decoration of an evergreen tree..
are all Pagan rituals.
******************************************************************
quite simply the church started these things to make it easier for pagans to relate. what happened was that the pagans moved in and put so many of their beliefs into the church that it is nothing like what it started as.
jumpin' Christ they worship a triune god now....
the Christian church stopped being of the teachings of christ about 1400 years ago.
