My best 800m run this season which is now over for me due to being inelligable for CIF is 1:57.78 as a Junior. I was wondering wether I should take off the winter season and just run about 3 miles a day after XC or do Indoor track. I'm not very worried about trying to get scouts looking at me as that's already been happening a lot. My goal Senior year is for atleast 1:55 in my 800 peaked, not so as I burn out half way through the season. I would only like answers from experienced runners or coaches. This is just another opinion from what I have asked my coaches.

Whether you burn out or not depends on how many races you have in the season. Usually you will peak indoors and then go down a little and start up for the outdoor season. There are a limit to the number of races you can run in one season. You need to look at when you want to peak, usually for conference or district championships, so you run into that meet. You should do off season regardless of doing indoor or not. Most people can do better outdoors because of the larger track, so you could use indoor as your base and not peak indoor. Or you could do off season, and xc before outdoor and skip indoor. You need to decide what works best for you. Your peak is best when you work back from the meet you wish to peak at. That is, you look at the number of weeks from your peak meet and schedule your training for that week. You need several meets to get into sharp running shape, so you count the meets as part of your training. I am a coach.

I don't know what "CIF" means. That being said:
Running competitively three seasons takes its toll on the body.
You might be better prepared for the spring track season by
skipping winter track and concentrating on workouts to
improve your 1/2 mile time. This will involve an organized regimen of workouts; speed, distance, weights. Of course this will involve self motivation and training facilities. You will
need a knowledgable person to assist and monitor you.
Without the pressure of competition in the Winter, you can relax and enjoy your workouts, and hopefully feel refreshed
and ready for the Spring.
No doubt your coach will pressure you into joining the Winter
team (He will hate to lose all those team points!), but
it's your decision; your future.

I'd suggest running indoor for balance. As a half-miler you need to have some kind of speed training. You can maintain endurance while still working on your fast twitch mechanics, it's just important as you pointed out, not to peak too soon. Get some 4's and 2's in, but also keep up your distance training. Good Luck and keep running hard!

Well, you don't exactly want to peak at the end of high school if you want to have a successful running career in college. You are quite fast already and so I would recommend just staying in shape with some running throughout the winter, supplimented by a few indoor meets.

Indoor music is for colleges contained in the northern US for the most section because they could't run outdoors year round because of glaring climate causes at the same time as colleges down south can run outdoors the entire year because temperatures do not drop as low as they'd in shall we are saying vast apple. and also you may't be invited except you've a time recorded for indoor via the undeniable fact that's a intense college meet.
