find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

run, eat your vegetables, walk, weight lifting. Drink allot of water, stretch, play a sport, start eating salads more
also if you eat a big healthy breakfast it will help you to eat less through out the rest of the day. try not to snack as much as you usually would too. Ask your self if you're really, hungry when you go and get something to eat, or if you just want to taste something. Also if your going out to a buffet get one main healthy food and let fill up at least three fifths of your plate.
Before every meal drink one glass of water so you wont eat as much.
last, eat a small snack like a hard boiled egg before you go out to eat somewhere. Hope this helps!!!!!!!!!!

My opinion is that if the 12 year old is 15+ pounds overweight ,you should worry about it, but if they just want to lose 10 pounds for the looks, dont worry about it because losing weight can hurt your body. Exersize everyday, tell your parent to take all unhealthy food out of snack area/kitchen, dont snack on anything with more than 2 g of fat. need more email me at torimele@yahoo.com

for a twelve year old I would say don't worry about diet. Just go out and get some exercise. LImiting your caloires at that age can really hurt you. It can even stunt your growth. So just go out and play or walk a few miles or ride your bike. Ten pounds is nothing you should worry about expeically when you are still growing.
