I was born with hallux valgus (bunions) on both of my feet. My identical twin sister does not have this deformity. How is this possible?

You are identical at the level of cellular DNA. But how each of you develop in the uterus is dependent on many things aside from DNA. I other words this deformity is not dependent on DNA, but occurs during fetal development. That's a very individual thing.

Even though you were given identical genes. there are things in utero or in your life that can cause something to be different.
Sometimes it has to do with cell division which each fetus does on it's own. Also one twim might get more blood and nutrition from the placenta . There could be obstructions in where each fetus is located in the uterous.
Also if the mother falls or is in a car accident , it could trigger one thing in one of the twins.

I know identical twins whom through the years had different paths in their life. The one twin has a very ill husband and many trials with that. With that trouble she eats too much junk food. She has developed an autoimmune disease which her sister most likelyl has the propesity for but doesn't have the disease.

Seeing a differece in identical twins...reminds each of us that we could be a variety of people considering our choices we maks.

Ask your doctor.

You probably kept kicking your twin while still in the womb, and that messed up your feet before they were fully formed.
