agreed, can't believe this has happened in other places yet no-one seems to have challenged it, considering over 1/5th of the population are current smokers.

providing there is a non smoking area, i cant see the issue.

What ever happened to equal rights????? why has this never been challenged????????

It is not illegal, they are sold in shops, just another step towards living in a dictatorship in my opinion.

But seriously, what good will come of this? pubs/clubs losing trade. Think I would rather stay at home with a few beers, be a cheaper night anyway.

This is where unfairness comes into it,if you are caught smoking in the pub you face a fine of £50 and the poor Landlord who tells you not to faces a fine of £2,500!
Do you think that is fair?
I don't, I'm a Landlady but it will be my job to uphold the law or I get fined, it's ludicrous.
My argument is that it will be against the law to smoke in my pub so I should be able to phone the Police and report it like any other crime not have to sort it myself.
I wouldn't get fined if someone broke into my machines or caused criminal damage I would phone the Police, it is their job,so why should smoking be any different?(More revenue ??)
Luckily I have trouble free premises but others are not so lucky and putting the onus on the Landlord just isn't right.
I do sympathise with non smokers and to me an overall ban is discrimination ,so please think about your "Host" before lighting up.

1) First they will fine individuals. (Don't think the system will cope, it copes with hundreds of thousands of speeding tickets every year!)

2) Fine the Landlord / Landlady of the pub and if they continually abuse the law remove their licences and therefore their living. (Which in reality means the landlord will throw you out if you refuse to stop smoking.)

3) Maybe the non-smokers who hate passive smoking and clothes stinking of smoke after a night out will take positive action. It's about time we did, we have had to put up with that for way too long. Although I hate the nanny state culture we now have this law is long over due. Stop winging and accept the changing society we live in.

4) The necxt law dat de autorities are gonna is dat u av to use de spellin checker ting on dis site coz ur speling is atroshus.

They're not going to bother hitting the people smoking if you do that. They'll hit the landlord for allowing you to smoke.
I'm sure the pub will be delighted the filthy smokers puffing smoke all over the bar staff have just cost them a big fine.
Are you sure you're a non smoker? It's just that you sound sufficiently thick to inhale VERY deeply....

if we'd have cherished clean air that lots we'd ban autos or a minimum of make public transport unfastened or easily greater handy on the 2nd we are packed onto trains in circumstances that animals does no longer be allowed to return and forth interior the smoking ban has ended many roles , a buddy of mine has taken her infants out of inner maximum college by effect of the ban its no longer the value of beer that's ultimate pubs down its the smoking ban only an entire fool might think of in any different case we are able to illuminate in pubs and forget approximately with regard to the ban yet maximum all and sundry is too vulnerable to do this

As most people in the pub will be law abiding individuals, and as the landlord won't want to lose his licence, chances are the one smoker left will be singled out.

Landlords will go along with the law - they don't want the fines. I think it is a stupid law but typical of this nanny state. I see the point about the health issue so there should be smoking and non smoking areas.

The issue over the smell of cigarettes - yes, it is not nice but then neither is stale beer, cheap perfume, wet dogs, diesal fumes. Are we going to ban all these?

They are able to take the money direct from the accounts and im pretty sure they could accomondate everyone if they really wanted to.

Ive been to places where they make the non smokers go through the smoking bit just to get to the non smoking area.

AUTHORITIES!!! Why would non smokers want to sit in a smoky atmosphere? I think the majority (even some smokers who don't like smoky air when they're eating etc) are in favour of the ban so I can't see your scenario happening.

I don't think we will be able to beat this I'm afraid!!
It will get enforced properly as it has in other countries!
I saw a landlord on the tv and he said if people smoke he cant risk getting fined so he'd have to call the police in to sort it out! (what a waste of police that could be out with more important things)
All these no smoking do gooders don't go in pubs! My mums one of them so she avoids places like this and would much rather be in a nice restaurant than a pub!
Could go on and on about this but i wont!!
