They were close enough to hit him with batons and pepper spray, one repeatedly yells he's charging, seconds before the shooting they check their crossfire. Read both links closely for conflicting "facts" Transcripts were never published but on line paper only. This shooting outraged citizens as did 2 other in this county.

He was not on drugs as far as I know.

I just read the first one and all I saw was that the cops told the suspect to "put the knife down" at least 2 dozen times and "we're here to help you" more than 6 times. The rest is broken comversations during a panic situation. A lot said at a confusing time.

I side with the police until further examination.

OC gas doesn't work on everyone. If someone is on PCP, OC often makes them worse.
If you are close enough to use your baton, you are close enough to get stabbed. Vests do not protect against knives, and if he hit a major artery the victim could die before reaching the hospital.
So, are you saying that one of the officers should have sacrificed himself and gotten stabbed, so that the other officers could beat the suspect with their batons?
He was threatening the officers with the knife, he wasn't just holding it! He was told over and over and over to drop the knife. He continued to threaten them with the knife and as a result he got shot.
I think the shooting was justified.

I see nothing in your transcript that indicates the officers were close enough to use batons at the time shots were fired. I do see indications that the batons were not successful it getting the suspect to DROP THE KNIFE. I also know that it is impossible to effectively use a gun from close enough to use a baton.

So? They showed great restraint in not shooting him earlier.

Lawful and justified shooting.

On behalf of law enforcement, I apologize for whatever bad experience that made you bitter against police officers the country over. We're not the unjustified shooting, beating, taser wielding animals you think we are, sorry.

Additional: You now say he was not under the influence of drugs, so there's no other reason for him to fail to comply with the deputies' instructions to put the knife down. Even more justification.

If the suspect had put the knife down, he wouldn't have been shot. He got himself killed, you can't blame law enforcment.
