What you really need to be asking yourself is. What are you plans for your life as of now. Are you seeking to better yourself in any way or just having a good time in life. Yes going out and having a blast is a blast. Then again do you want to be making less than 10 bucks an hour trying to raise a family. That is if the jobs stay in this country. Most of them are selling US ie USA down the drain for cheaper slave labor. I do mean slave labor and its funny how we as a country went to war over that fact, yet we support it now with Nafta.
Another thing you need to do is to understand recruiters. They are sells men in uniform, and this is not a bad thing it just is what it is. If you do seek to join, you first need to talk with somebody who has already joined the military. That way they can inform you on how to go about enlisting. What I mean is that they have a lot to offer as far as funding for school, programs for degrees, enlistment bonus, all kinds of things and you need to know them before you sign on the line. One thing that I have heard is this. Lets say you request to be a MP and when you get there after you have signed the line. They set a test down in front of you, if you do not make the grade required for that test. You then have one more chance in order to get the grade needed. If you fail the test again, they then are allowed to place you as they see fit. Now this all may be totally wrong but maybe you are seeing the point about checking it all out before you sign.
Its a contract young man, and a contract that can not be voided like a lot of other things in your life. Once you sign on the line, you are saying that in Honour I give these years to service for my country. Wrong or right, I offer them up.
Reread this a few times if you need to so that you can make a good call a great call. Enjoy life, for you only live it once...

Yes the ARMY is a good place to learn disapline and honer. It will also help young people grow into well mannered adults. The military may look bad right now because of Iraq ,but the men and women that join get 14 weeks of training not just 6-8 weeks and the MaMas boy that joins will learn to be a selfless person and learn values that most kids and adults these days do not have . And that comes from a man who has 19 years in the ARMY with 15 years as a DRILL SGT in the reserves And 4 years with the 82 AIRBORNE DIVISION. So yes it is a very good way to grow up. HOOAH!!!!

Any branch of the military can be a good choice for a young person. There are many benefits to joining the military. The military offers training, discipline, and travel. Not all people stay in the military till retirement, but the retirement package is pretty good too.
Educational benefits are very good. Currently members of the military have 100% of tuition assistance as regulated by each branch of the military. 100% tuition means that the courses are paid for, the only expense you would have is the books and other related materials for the class. The Montgomery G.I. Bill which you put 100 per month for the first 12 months, and the rest approximately 38,000 for college is put in by the government. There are also Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Marine Corps college fund that can add an additional 20,000 to the montgomery G.I. Bill. Essentialy your college can be fully paid for by the military.
There is advancement that leads to pay increases, a constant paycheck, you can't be fired unless you really mess up and are sent to court martial.
The medical and dental benefits that are no cost to you at all.
All these things add up to many good reasons to join the military, those that say you will die or be killed are fools. You can die or be killed just going out your door in the morning. The military is an option that can be very satisfying. It all depends on you and how you use the tools given to you in life.

I joined the Army back in 1994 as a 19 year old. At that time I was already tired of working dead end jobs, I couldn't afford college and I had no direction. I am now a veteran of two deployments to Iraq, and I have made a successful career both on Active duty and in the National Guard. If you want to know what you are made of and capable of, than yes, the Army is a great place for any young male willing to make the commitment.

I am an Army recuiter, so I am a little biased. I would say that no the Army is not the bets place for a young male. Only some people can even qualify for the army. If you happen to be one of those people, and are unsure of what you want to do, then the Army could be a good fit for you. It is a good place to gain experiece, make money, and finsh school. Also, it givs you time to mature, and figure out what you want to do. I would talk to all branches. only listen to what each recruiter says about their own branch... Dont listen to what the Air Force says about the Army or vice versa. If you have any questions feel free to email me.

The military offers training in life skills and discipline, and possibly teaches you an occupation that you can use afterward. It also pays better than a lot of the things that young people would do if they didn't enlist. Very importantly, it is an honorable thing to serve your country, and almost all 300 million of us Americans will salute you for working so hard to keep us safe.
It is also an adventure that you will remember for the rest of your life. You will certainly grow up a lot in a very short time, and will be a more mature, responsible person when you complete your service, which will make you a more valuable employee and a better, happier citizen.
As you know, it is dangerous if you are sent to a war zone, and there is a chance of being injured or killed. I think the death rate is a little under 1 in 100 each year. (So if you serve in a war zone for one year, there is a 1% chance you will be killed.) That is not an attractive prospect, but the positive aspects of service may make it worth the 1% chance. You'll have to decide that.
Good luck making your decision.
And thank you for considering the possibility of serving our country.

I love how people like to stick their noses where they don't belong.
Anyway, yeah it's pretty good. Pay is good and it will give you training. If you are ready to go to school after you finish your enlistment, I would suggest you go Army Nat. Guard. It pays the best for school.
But yeah, the Army is great. Really not a whole lot of worries compared to the civilian world. You do your job and have fun afterwards. If you pick a job where you'll have fun, like tanker, then it's awesome.
Join up. Call a recruiter.
There really isn't a whole lot going on in Iraq. Not nearly as much as the news makes it out to be. All these people saying differently know no soldiers that have ever been over there. They just like putting their noses where they don't belong, like I said. They should really get a life tbh.

i am in the air force the best decission i have ever made. i am a hvac/r tech. i work 7-4 i have the weekends and all holidays off.
i have never been to iraq i have tried everything to go with my squadron but to no avial, its all about the band of brothers. so you have to decide what you want out of life. if you can take someone telling you what to do all the time the military will be good. other wise i would find a different carrer choice

It all depends on what you want to get out of life. Any one of the services offers a great place to start your career, just be carefull of what you get. At least with the Army and Army Reserves, you get to choose your job and it is in writing. Do your research.

If you feel you lack discipline and/or direction, the military can give you that, as well as money for education. Joining the military is an honorable thing to do - but like any life choice, look at all your options and make sure this is what you want before you commit the next 4 years of your life to the military.
