I am not to sure if it was dark blue or black. but on each wing it had stripes of Neon Orange that was hidden when it was still but shown when it flew. does anybody have any clue to what type of bird this may be? thanks in advance! : ]

look up "Red winged blackbird" on the web, and see if that is what you saw. Here in Ohio, they are along highways, and in open fields.

It wounds like a Red-winged Blackbird. Did it look like this?

I'm almost certain that it was a red-winged blackbird. You only see these red patches when they are courting or flying or upset at another bird. They are cool to look at.

It's a red-winged blackbird, most likely. I bought "Sibley's guide to birds" and looked it up last year when I saw these coming to my birdfeeder. You are right- they are beautiful and stand out!

You should go to the closest library because there are plenty of good books on bird watching. The librarian will be happy to help you find something on the shelves or through inter-library loan.

It sounds like a Baltimore Oriole. They MIGHT range as far as Kentucky.
