First of all, there is no such thing as OS11 for the Mac. The most current is 10.4.9.

Which Mac were you given? If it is very old, you might need OS9. If possible, run OS10 on it though, as it is up to date and much cooler... ;-)

If money is an issue, you can find legal OEM disks of the Mac OS online for less than they cost in the store. You can then run the online software update to bring the OS to a newer version.

I agree with the other poster who discouraged you from pirating software. His comments about "little, expensive, and buggy Mac software" came straight from his aßß however...

My Mac has never crashed and is loaded with pro-level apps, all of which cost the same as the Windows versions. (except for some real gems which are Mac-only)

Bottom line... pay for your software, but first take a closer look at the machine you were given. If it doesn't run, there might be a problem that can't be solved by installing a new OS. Maybe a Mac-savvy friend can boot it for you from an external HD to test it out.

peace

The reason people don't buy Macs is because there is very little software available for them, and the software that there is is expensive and generally buggy.

That said, installing a pirated OS on your Mac is stealing. Don't drag us into your crimes.

Friends don't let friends drive Mac.
