It is true that you can tell a Mexican accent in Spanish from a Puerto Rican one, or a Cuban one or what have you.
But I dont know about Puerto Ricans hating Mexicans.
But why, if thats really the case, would you ever want to move there?? Why would you ever even consider accepting a life of staying indoors all the time? I'd go crazy.
Hopefully someone can help you, I just dont know.
Good luck

Quite possibly. You may think, from listening to the propeganda, that the US is one of the most racist countries in the Anglophone world, and that whites have some sort of lock on racism. Nope. Other cultures are even more racist - and often without the self-flagellating apologism you see in the US.
Things like that can change with the wind, though, and you should still be able to make friends there, and will probably find communities where there is no such discrimination. Besides, you BF could be mistaken. I was sure my family would have trouble accepting my wife, but even my mother didn't have a problem with her. Don't let the possibility of trouble discourage you.

There is a difference in the way that a Mexican will speak compared to someone from Puerto Rico. For that matter - both of you would have problems if you went to Spain.
As to if you would have problems living in Puerto Rico - depends on the area that you are going to live in.

Well, the Spanish is very different between Puerto Ricans and Mexicans.....Just live your life and don't hide....If they don't accept you because your half Mexican, its THEIR problem not yours.....My husband is Spanish and his family has no problems with me or my accent, I am also Mexican/American....I guess some people are just ignorant to judge someone based on where they are from and because they have a different accent.....
Just remember, when your self confident and know who you are, people will treat you differently.....Hold your head up girl!

Here is a song to explain it:
THE KINGSTON TRIO lyrics - "The Merry Minuet
They're rioting in Africa. They're starving in Spain. There's hurricanes in Florida and Texas needs rain.
The whole world is festering with unhappy souls. The French hate the Germans. The Germans hate the Poles.
Italians hate Yugoslavs. South Africans hate the Dutch and I don't like anybody very much!
But we can be tranquil and thankful and proud for man's been endowed with a mushroom shaped cloud.
And we know for certain that some lovely day someone will set the spark off and we will all be blown away.
They're rioting in Africa. There's strife in Iran. What nature doesn't do to us will be done by our fellow man.

I think your boyfriend is trying to scare you either as a joke or to control you. Whatever it is tell him you're not going there if it is to stay inside like a prisoner. And really if i were you i would even consider changing the boyfriend. People there won't hate you. Go there by yourself (without the jerk around) and take the temperature of the place. I am sure people there are warm and welcoming. Good luck anyways!

It's a sad thing, but many countries will hate you for what your ancestors or government does.
I wouldn't move there at all. You don't have a chance of convincing an entire country that whites and Mexicans are human beings just like they are. When they are ready to grow up and stop being racist, THEN think about moving there.

NO they won't, people are people no matter where you go. You may run into a couple of persons who do who hate Mexicans. But in general people are kind and welcoming, it is ridiculouse to think they will hate you because of you're accent. You even speak Spanish, you have nothing to worry about. They think it's intersting to have friends who aren't Puerto Rican, you have nothing to worry about.

I would stay...why would somebody who supposedly cares for you take you to a place where they would hate you? And he says you will have to stay inside all day? What kind of crap is that? This is all wrong - red flag Ask your family what they think. If you were my sister I would tell you not to go....unless you like sitting in a house all day stay in the US.

Do you really want to move somewhere with someone who plans to keep you inside all the time?
Find someone else and move on,the whole situation sounds shady.
