You don't 'turn it off.' ABS is a safety feature that helps prevent you from skidding when you suddenly jam on the brakes. The light in your console most likely means that there is a problem in the ABS system that needs to be looked at.
All the while this light is on, you are not being protected from skids. So get it fixed soon.

ABS stands for 'Anti-lock Brake System' It prevents your whhels from locking up during a panic stop, thus allowing you to remain in
control of the direction of your vehicle. The system utilizes wheel speed sensors to detect wheel slip, an electronic brake control module (EBCM) to calculate inputs which in turn commands outputs to the ABS pump/motor which pulses a series of valves
open and closed. This simulates the driver pumping the brakes on a non-ABS equiped vehicle, only this system does is about 100 times a second. I'm not familiar with fords, as i work for GM, but the systems are similar. Your problem could be a wheel speed sensor, module, or pump/motor, or the electrical wiring that links all of these together. The yellow ABS light is usaully an indication of an electrical fault, while the red brake warning lamp is an indicator of a more serious, potentially dangerous hydraulic fualt.
While you are not in any immediate danger from your ABS light on, your vehcile will not pass the state inspection. I recommend you take your vehicle to a well known, competent mechanic who specializes in brakes, or even better, a FORD dealer. Stay away from Brake Stop/ Brake Check or Meinekie; they sell you all kinds of unnecessary repairs which will end up costing you more $$ and more hassle.

It's antilock brakes which means if you hit the brakes it's less likely to lock up. I don't know why you would want to turn off the abs. If you're just talking about the light then I guess take it to the shop but it'd probably be a waste of money. If you turn on abs brakes, if that's possible, you'd be foolish.

hi (ABS) stands for anti-lock braking system. almost every make and model comes with abs brakes. you cant turn them off and you don't want to. instead of your wheels locking up every time you hit the brakes the anti-lock brake system kicks in and pumps the brakes for you and lets you have more steering control while you have the brakes applied. with regular brakes in older vehicles you press the brake and all you do is slide straight. where abs brakes let you steer around an obstacle if you need to at the same time as slow or stop.
im not sure if the light is supposed to stay on or not but it usually only comes on when you start your car then shuts off just to let you know you have abs brakes.

ABS light is on because something isn't right with the computer part of the brake system. When abs doesn't work, or its unplugged, you have regular brakes like an old car. To turn off the light, it has to be repaired

ABS is the acronym for Anti-Lock Brake System, as numerous others have already posted. Every time you "key on", your car does what is referred to as a "self-test" in ALL the modules. Every time you start your vehicle, you have a series of warning indicators that illuminate (Air Bag, ABS, Fasten Seat Belts, Check Engine, Battery etc.), and once the vehicle's engine is running, the warning indicators turn off one by one, as each system completes its "self test". If the ABS module detects a problem, or anything it "sees" that falls outside of the parameters of what it's supposed to "see", the ABS light will illumimate. The common cause for ABS codes on Explorers in particular, is for the rear speed sensor to fail. This part is not expensive, nor is the labour to replace it, IF THAT'S THE PROBLEM. You can NOT "turn it off", or erase the code, the way you would if it were the CHECK ENGINE light that was on. It will "turn off" ONLY when all inputs and outputs are restored to the proper operating parameters. Hope this helps.

ABS stands for Anti Lock Braking system, you said it, if the light is on you should get it checked by a certified brake mechanic, something is wrong, you could need new brake pads at least. Be careful. Good Luck and GOD Bless
