My main concern is getting the most miles per gal I can (I drive about 140 miles a day) but I also have 3 kids (3, 6 &12) and a tall wife (6' 3") with long legs. Cost is also a factor. What car should I be looking at?

I would recommend you get a TDI (diesel). With the long miles you drive, you'll get excellent mileage. That engine really loves to stretch its legs. Look into Passats or Jettas. If it was your daily driver only, a NewBeetle TDI would give you the best mileage.

Given that you have 3 kids....
I'd say why not go with a mini-van?
Mini-van has also a great milege.
I think Toyota Sienna is the way to go.
It has 28 or 30 freeway MPG. And since it's a mini-van,
it has plenty of room.
Or if you prefer sedan, get yourself a Camry. They are pretty roomy inside. And its' freeway milege is 32 or 34.
But given that you have 3 kids and tall wife, I'd say...
go for the mini-van. Toyota Sienna is real nice and last long too.

You might try a new Ford Escape. They are also available as a hybrid for better mileage, but personally, I'd go with the V6 engine instead. good luck

One that you can afford and that does what a car should do. All other considerations don't matter that much (although if you can find one that gets good gas mileage, go for it!).
