So I am driving down the i-90 trying to get home from college and to my left is a patrol car I slow down...but haha...too late :( ...the red and blue lights go on and I am like about to **** my pants. He asks me why I think i am getting pulled over and I said I think I was going to fast...and I got really nervous...and he goes like...maam..how fast do you think you were going...i'm like eeeh...like 75-80. He goes like you were doing 83 on a 65 zone. He gives me this slip that I need to send in 15 days saying weather I am guilty or not...The place where I got pulled over is approx. 7 hours from home. Is this even worth pleading not guilty? I am thinking of pleading not guilty just to apologize for going so fast but also thank him for pulling me over because maybe if he hadn't I would raced down at the the wrong time and crashed. I really learned my lesson. This was also my first time getting pulled over...ever. Or should I just avoid the hassle and plead guilty? What will happen?

First of all, you will have a fine so, you can send that in and avoid going to court. You will forfeit the fine and enter a guilty plea that way. Most police officers, and I deal with many during the Thursday through Saturday knife and gun club, and they allow five over the speed limit, unless road conditions or your driving gets their attention.
Be glad you were slowed down and made it home safe. Too many young people end up in the ER and don't make it home.
Check with that state and see if you can do traffic school online to get the ticket off your record.

Since you TOLD him you were going 75-80, I don't think you have a case for claiming you were going 65.
Just plead guilty and pay the fine. In a lot of places, if you plead not guilty and then are found guilty you have to pay court costs on top of the fine.
BTW, was the ticket just for speeding or for reckless driving? The latter would be alot worse and you might want to talk to a lawyer.

If you just pay the fine and say that your guilty your going to get point points for speeding put on your licenses. Your insurance may go up, so it will cost you more. You really don't want to have points on your licenses if you can help it.
See if there is a driving school class that you can go to, if they have a class go to it. You will save money in the long run as your insurance rates go up, because of the ticket. Yes the class and the ticket will be expensisve, but in the end you will be glad as you will save the points and extra ins.
I would find a way to take a class and see if you can work off the ticket. You would still have to pay the fine.
The last ticket that I had was like 7 years ago, I took an on-line course for traffic school. I had to pay the fine for speeding and the fee for taking the class. But it kept the ticket from being placed on to my record. You don't get the points put on your record and you insurance never even knows about it, unless you get another ticket with in 18 months of the last one and then I think they can put them both on your record.
You are only allowed to take the class once every 18 months, to keep it from going on your record. It is still expensive, but well worth it in the long run you will save on your insurance rates. Also you won't have points on your licenses.

Just pay the fine and be well. He gave you a break because the limit for higher points is at 20 mph over the limit and he gave you a ticket for 18 over. Doesn't sound like 14 hours round trip is worth the few bucks you would save by going in and getting a plea bargain. Peace.

They don't want your apology. Just pay the ticket and hopefully the pain in your wallet will help you remember to drive more carefully. You will lose some points on your license too, which is further incentive to be more careful -for awhile at least! The points eventually do come back. It is a very mature way to look at it that maybe he saved your life.

your best option is to just pay the fine. If you go through the hassle of going to court, you can lose and have to pay the fine and court costs too, if you plea not guilty.
besides you admitted you were wrong and know you were speeding, just pay the fine and chalk the experience up to a lesson learned.

well if this is the frist time you have been pulled over then all you have to do is go and pay your fine and then attend one of the many online traffic schools so it wont mess up your driveing record to much you could fight it but odds are you are going to loose but just go and pay your fines and take traffic school

Pay the fine and that's it. If you want to thank the Officer, send a thank you card to him at the agency he works for addressed to his last name and badge number. You'll make his day...trust me. Oh and congratulations for "getting it" the first time.

Looca......there is no question here for me as a parent, if you were my daughter I would have been GLAD he pulled you over and I would thank him......that is too fast and you are right to say it just could have been for your own good.......part of growing up is if you did wrong own it and now, pay for it....I am glad you at least consider the fact that he did you a service, now ...........as a mom,,,,,,,,for gawds sake SLOW DOWN............lol
