I've always been a pretty shy guy, but still have never had much of a problem with girls, until recently. Had several gfs (who came up to me) in hs and college but now I'm out in the "real" world and that is not happening anymore. Am I just in a "slump" or do I have to learn to start approaching women now in clubs and bars (dating scene)? Any advice.
ps If you're gonna make fun of me, that's okay too. Just make sure it is witty.

I am a guy, but being that I am working on 37 years of singlehood and dating for 20 years I can answer this question. Girls in high school are OK with guys being shy. Like themselves, they are just beginning to date and pursue the opposite sex and are pretty socially awkward themselves.
Once you reach 18 and get into college and beyond, the women you run into are more socially/sexually confident and tend to look down on the quiet shy guys. They look at shy guys as NOT being confident, easy to push around, or needy groveling at their feet.
What you need to do is learn how to be more open and social. Learn how to be bold and romantic. Don't be afraid to approach women you meet at school. Rejections are going to happen, but you don't take them personally. After all, it is their loss and not yours. Work on your flirting skills and your approach. You will find in time you will have more ladies hanging around than you have time for.

In the real world after college, most women want confident men, not shy guys.
Learn to be confident and happy about yourself, no matter what. Then if you see a woman you find attractive just walk up and talk to her naturally.

shy guys are cute!! dont worry bout being shy just walk up to a girl you like or know you like and ask her on a date. and if she says no the no problem just say ok and walk away. that way you know how it feels to just ask a girl out. then you could try the next one at a club or bar.

my first "love" (which turned out to be puppy love i was young) and my future husband were both shy. i guess i like the chanllenge and the mystery. But both had to at least say hi to me. so you can just put yourself out there a little and you will be fine. just have the bar tender send her a drink with a note or just the drink and make sure your looking at her when she gets it and just smile when she looks at you. the best advise i can give is just have fun

I do. They're more of a challenge. Of course I'm extremely outgoing.
Just be nice and break out of your shell. What you might want to do is learn to dance. Well! That way if you go out you can ask women to dance.

I think women are actually wary about guys who don't say much. If a guy doesn't say anything then she doesn't know what he's thinking and might get creeped out by him.
