Well, I'm running 63 processes, with 24 items in the systray. Perhaps you have too many items in your startup menu. However, if all is operating as it should, I wouldn't worry. Otherwise look to see if you have any spyware or malware processes running (you DO have spyware detection software running?)

You need to be very careful when turning off services. Some can be safely turned off such as file index this will stop windows from making a list for quick reference and search of whats on the pc and where. You will notice it takes a little longer to search your pc but if like most you don't do searches much then it wont be a problem. Some aren't even used any more they go way back to 3.1 and 95 and just weren't ever removed. They don't appear in vista. BUT with that said some are very important to the operation of windows. Turn off the wrong one and you could find your pc wont start. Others such as Computer Browser is only needed if you have a home network, if you don't you can safely turn this off all it does is give a list of computers on the network. I could go through the list of what can be turned off but it would take to long and I'm sorry I don't have the time to go into it.

Do a goggle for Turning off windows services safely and you should get hundreds of links. I suggest though that you open two or three and print them off, then before you start turning off, compare each for the one you are about to turn off, just to make sure it isn't one that is needed. Don't go by just one website list in-case they have made some mistake!

I must be honest with you though it will not speed you pc up to anything that will astound you. If your computer is running slow, you'd be better off cleaning house and un-installing any software you don't use, then defrag you pc. Or install more ram, you can get it so cheap now, and it's very easy to install, as simple as plugging it in and locking it. Once you've done it you just reboot and windows will do the rest.

Yes that is too many processes.

A number of these processes start up due to what is in your start up folder.

First I suggest you find out what are the applications that you do not use. Many programs sold with your laptop are really not your programs it is ones you need to subscribe to in order to own. For example. If you are a comcast user and use comcast for your internet, then you have no use for AOL as a program. when and if you ever want to use AOL you can get download the program in the meantime it may sit in your start up and have to load up as you turn on the computer which is time consuming. With that in mind look at your "Add and remove programs"

Click on Start
Control Panel
Add or Remove Programs

After that restart your system click on ctr alt delete and find out the number of processes you are running.

My main concerned is if you were hijacked.

I suggest you find a freeware program called spybot search and destroy. Download that and get rid of any programs that are turning on with your start up.

If you still have too many you need to clean up your start up folder.

100 processes is too much normal service is between 45 and 52 processes check ms config and make sure you dont have any unneeded software running or even better consult a computer technician who can take a look at your laptop as trying to predict what is wrong over the net is virtually impossible without a direct connection to your machine!!!

well you can go to download.com and search for "teak", there are many programs to clean your "registry", but if you have a lot of programs the best for you is to start there, firs of all, delete every program you don't really use, after desfragment your machine

There is one program called O&O which is very good for desfragmetation, you can download it from the same page, basically the page also have a section for optimize your PC which is very important, you should check by yourself cause depending on the software you have, memory and long etc, only you can now exactly what it is good for you.

This sounds a heck of a lot and I suggest you take some out of your startups. You can use startup inspector (freeware) which will help you work out which it is safe to remove :-)
