Why does only the cash appear on my bank account? Two days have gone by and still no sign of the check amount. More or less, how long is this supposed to take usually?

You chould check into this in case there was an error. Bring in your receipt from the transaction.

My bank has been known to take up to 4 days if it's over the weekend. The practice varies; the best policy is that if you need the cash not to deposit it into your bank at all and just pay the fee at a cashing outfit so you can have it upfront. In the old days you could go to the bank that the company who issued the check has an account with, and cash it for free. Of course this is no longer the case as most people will obtain their accounts at that same bank, and a lot of banks simply were not receiving money for cashing checks at all. Checking is one of those things in which your financial institution has the most leverage over your account, and there are few ways left in which to get around some of the inconveniences and fees that banks charge, most of which benefit the bank, not the consumer.

Depends on whether or not the check was written from a local account or an out of town account. Some time must be given for it to clear the bank of origin.

Depends on the amount of the check, but it can be up to 5 business days. They need to verify the check is good before giving you credit. You should always deposit checks in person and not in the ATM, that helps the situation sometimes.

Cash is cash - it is immediately available. Checks need to 'clear' before the money is made available - it can take up to 10 business days for a check to clear, so you may want to check with your bank to find out how long you should expect to wait.

It should have been within 24 hrs....if it was a personal check (perhaps) they have to wait till it clears...I would call the bank ASAP and let them know. If there IS a problem you need to know right away!

Your 'ledger balance' should include the entire deposit immediately. Your 'available balance' (the amount you can withdraw) should include the checks within 5 business days.
