It's one of the following.
Model 1907 Auto Pistol has an exposed cocking piece and no grip safety.

Model 1915 Hammerless has a grip safety and no visible cocking piece.

Model 1917 Automatic has no grip safety, spur cocking piece and trapezoidal grips.

It sounds like you have the model 1907 pistol,the very 1st double stack single feed pistol ever made, over 15 patents were incepted in the production of this fine shootin' iron. On the down side, it's most likely only got a worth of around 300 bucks, maybe a bit more if it still has the metal grips.

In average conditions? Aprox. $125 to $250. It is hard to appraise a gun without seeing it, but that is ball-park-figure. Like new it would be closer to $550.
