Most babies that are born premature grow up to be completely normal. They are not abnormal. Premature means that the baby was born before 38-40 weeks of gestation. Only VERY premature babies may grow up with certain problems, such as brain damage.
The vast majority of people who were born before 40 weeks of gestation turn out just fine.

Being a preemie is being born before term, before 40 weeks. It sometimes takes them a little longer to catch up like sitting up later, walking later, If there were no problems due to being premature, like brain damage, lung damage etc.. then there is no signs of being premature when you grow up. You may have learning disabilities but you can't tell by looking! My daughter was born at 32 weeks and has mild learning problems but is as smart and beautiful as any other kid out there! she's 12 now and doing great!

I think it depends on why the person was born prematurely. If it had to do with the mother being addicted to drugs or alcohol then there are sure to be health side effects. My husband was born prematurely, only weighed 3lbs 2oz. and he grew up fine, although he is small. only 5'6" while his brothers are all taller at about 5"10.
Here's one site that might be helpful, if you scroll almost to the bottom, you can read about this.
