There is a vast difference -- acceptance, in spirituality, mindfulness, and human psychology, usually refers to the experience of a situation without an intention to change that situation. Acceptance does not require that change is possible or even conceivable, nor does it require that the situation be desired or approved by those accepting it.

Tolerance -- The parties reciprocally agree that the fact that one or the other of the parties tolerates a situation does not have the effect of granting any vested rights to the other party. Moreover no such tolerance may be construed as a waiver of the right to assert the rights in question.

tolerance means you allow something to exist without actively interfering or attempting to suppress it. You may or may not accept it.

Acceptance mean you do not disapprove of an action, and accept the people and their behavior.

For instance, if you intolerant of gays, you try to ban gay marriage. If you are tolerant, you may or may not accept gay lifestyle, but you don't oppose gay marriage. If you are accepting, you support gay marriage.

Acceptance is when you respect their beliefs, even if you don't agree with them, and treat both your beliefs and theirs with equal importance. Tolerance is when you don't respect their beliefs, but put up with them anyways.

Acceptance = acknowledging that it is fine/no big deal
Tolerance = not acknowledging the above, but being willing to 'put up' with it despite your contrary view
