Take some heavy duty Aluminum foil and ball it up and use it like you would sand paper... WORKS GREAT... Won't hurt the bluing..

Depending upon how bad the rust is, I learned a nifty trick from a gunsmith once. If we are talking little spots of surface rust, you can take a number 2 pencil and rub the lead/graphite portion over the rust completely covering it. Next use the eraser and clean off the lead/graphite and the rust should be either gone or greatly reduced. At this point Put a little oil on a cloth and wipe it down, nd this should keep it form comming back.

If not, do like phvswbts said, and reblue it.

You can clean of the rust with steel wool or very fine grit emory paper and reblue the barrel with a cold blue solution. Most gun stores carry it or order it for you. It costs around $5, just follow the instructions on the bottle. It may not have the deep dark blue color of a factory hot blue treatment but will look a heck of a lot better than rust.

Use a fine sanding sheet and gently rub the rust away. Polish down and lube everything.
