Dear Best,
I work in social services and know first hand that there are people who love and adopt 15 year olds. However, I don't know the specific circumstances regarding your parents. If they still retain rights, they would have to agree to your adoption. If your parents' rights are already terminated, you can basically request to have adoption as your case plan goal and the state in which you live is obligated by Federal Law (called ASFA) to make reasonable efforts toward that goal.

Oh man, this is tough. I'm assuming that there's something horrible going on with your family if you want to take a step this drastic. However, going up for adoption at this age would pretty much ensure that you'll be in the state's care until you're 18. Is there someone you can talk to about this problem? If I were you, I'd go to my best friend's parent and tell them about your situation, in confidence. A parent of a friend who sees you all the time usually loves you as their own, so he or she would do all that they could for you, I'm sure. If they offered you a place to stay or anything else that you need, you're set! However, living under state's care is probably much worse than whatever your situation is now. Please, think about this, and get the help you need. If you are being abused, no. Don't put up with it. However, if you just don't get along with your parents or just don't want to live there anymore, just deal with it. It's completely normal, and it's much better than many other situations that you could be in.

I wish you the best, honestly.

Talk to your school counselor, a good teacher, a priest or Social Worker. You must be feeling pretty low right now -- I'm sorry. There must be things going on in your life which need some serious attention. Likely not your fault. But adoption is a drastic step, which for a 15 year old, is the last possible option for your safety and well being, but not impossible. You can always call a child abuse hotline or the police, too, if you are in danger. See the toll free number below for immediate help. Hang in there, get help, and I sincerely hope things improve for you. Talk to a trusted adult. Again and again if needed.

If you are wanting to be adopted, I suggest first talking to your parents, though this sounds like a very hard thing to do, it will make things glide easier (typically.). Maybe you can find some of your family that would be willing to let you stay with them for a while, if so then you could get the feel of being away from home. If after staying with a realitive, your mind is still made up on getting adopted, then contact the state. Try not to hurt our famly to bad. It could really be painful if you jerked away suddenly, but if you take it kinda slow everything will work out!
good luck......keep me posted!

I worked as a social worker for two years and believe me you do not want to be put up for adoption. First, of all you are 15 and there are not a lot of people who want to adopt a 15 year old. So, most likely you will end up in foster care. Unfortunately, foster homes are not always good homes. You really need to think this through. If you decide to go into the foster care system and then decide you don't like it- it won't be an easy process to get out.

umm, why would you want to be adopted???

you have friends and family that love you, why would you want to give that up? besides, it is highly unlikely that you could even stay in Lecanto anyway.

but if there are serious problems at home, i suggest you talk to a counselor or an adult that you deeply trust

best of luck.

Are you in an orphanage? You can't just ask to be adopted especially if you are living with your parents..
Your question is not clear..
I would love to adopt you but it seems the system doesn't let you choose who I can adopt..
But if you have no parents and a relative has taken you in then that person will need to give permission to the person that they want and together they can go to the court with an attorney representing the issue.. And then it can be done..

it will be difficult to find a family who would want to adopt a 15 year old. You would end up in foster care and live in the system. If things are really bad at home, perhaps you have a relative or someone you could stay with.

I would wait till I was 18 and then high tail it out of there. You are so eager to be adopted yet you haven't given much clarification why. Do you already have a family? Are you upset with them? Are they moving?

As for your question, not sure how you could be adopted if you already have a family. I think you have to file for emancipation? Seperation from family first and then you may be adopted, check into it first and then decide.

Unless you know someone already who would like to adopt you (aunt, family friend, etc), then it would be unlikely for you to be adopted as a teenager, and you would probably be in foster care until age 18.
Minors are removed from parents for issues of abuse and neglect, but if there are just family issues, then your parents would need to give up custody of you. Whatever the issue is, please contact a counselor and let them help you figure out what to do.
