The cleanest fuel you can use is Hydrogen. Any 4 stroke engine that burns gasoline can burn hydrogen. You can make your own or buy it from a local source like a welding supply house. When you burn hydrogen you get water vapor out the tail pipe. See my small engine lawn mower conversion at the second source list below.

Happy converting...........oh yeah burning hydrogen actual cleans the air, no other fuel does that, and electric only gets you to zero emissions.

E85 if you can find it, you might need to tune the carb a bit.

Other than that, most go-cart people seem to go with electric. There are a lot of electric go-carts out there. That will be, by far, the cleanest. Small engines are very polluting, even on alternative fuels.

You could run it on wood shavings or coal. The Germans did that with heavy trucks in WWII. Don't expect to set any speed records however.

How bout bike pedals? You'd get great leg-leverage in a semi-reclined position and it will really cut down on the noise and smoke!
