I don't think this is possible. If I remember correctly the dynamo was a non standard fitting that had the normal pulley for the drive belt on the end at the back of the car, but the front end had a shaft extension to carry the cooling fan. Also the mounting was direct to the engine, without the "normal" swinging bracket to adjust the belt. This was done by fitting shims between the two sides of the pulley.

You can buy a kit to retro-fit the alternator into you VW as it will have all the instuctions and parts.

You need an alternator, Stand, strap, and a few connectors.

You install the parts under the rear hatch, and you dissconect the reguator under the rear seat then connect the same colored wires togather with crimp connectors and then sodier them.

Then your done and if you've done everything right your car will be better off then before.

It can be done, it helps to be familiar with both systems (not a rocket scientist). I did this same conversion a long time ago. Trial and error if you have the time.
Start with getting your head round the function of the regulator. The rest of the job should make sense after. Get a Haynes book for the year models where the generator and alternator overlap.

Good luck

you will have to change some wiring in the engine compartment and to the charging light on the dashboard.
LEAVE IT TO SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING.
