At the same time I have read a story in some English language study book about homeless young Englishmen, who somehow became homeless and they were desperate to improve their lives, they couldn't get any job to pay for the food and accommodation knowing the English language as a mother tongue. How is it possible, when so many foreigners come to the UK to find some work with rather poor knowledge of English and at the same time native British men are homeless?

People are homeless for many reasons, like mental illness and drug addiction.

It's not simply a case of not wanting a job.

Well two key reasons. To get a job, home etc you need to already have a permanant address but as you are homeless you can't get the job or home you need so it is a bit catch 22. The other thing is that people from other countries usually have skills or trades, from fitting carpets and building, to baking and farming. They will often work for less than 'natives' with the same skills. They do this because the poor salary the get here, is a huge salary back home. So they live here in meagre accomdation living of basic food for a few years, send all the money home and go home and live like a king.

Usually, people come to the UK because the cost of living in their own countries is much more expensive, whereas the UK is cheap in comparison.

For instance, my home country of NZ is four times more expensive to live in than London. London is VERY cheap in comparison to Auckland, so I'm much better off living and working in London.

A lot of them also come to the UK because they cannot get jobs in their own countries, and they do all the jobs in the UK that the natives refuse to do. Over the years I've been here I've heard a lot of people refer to the British as being a very lazy bunch, who won't work jobs they feel are beneath them.

This means that foreigners coming to the UK can easily get these jobs because there are a lot of vacancies.

It's a funny old world.

If you look back into history, you will find exactly the same situation arose then. Yes, sadly many people are homeless through personal problems in their lives and they could not cope.

But there are also people who have lost the drive to better themselves and take any job while doing that. A road sweeper has many hours on his own for thinking and surely during that time, can start thinking him or herself into the life that they really want. Anyone can change their life at any moment that they want.

The wages paid in the UK economy are more attractive to migratory workers than to UK nationals because of the difference in the cost of living in the two countries.

Additionally (and somewhat controversially), it seems to me that there are some people who consider some jobs to be beneath their dignity and would rather live on benefits.

How can there be able bodied unemployed people when the streets are not clean?
