This could be a Charley horse. I don't believe this is dangerous to your health, only your doctor can tell you that answer. This is the first place your body targets when you are dehydrated. Drink lots of water! You should be drinking 8-10 glasses of water each day. I recommend purified water and mineral water mixed 50/50. The mineral water is going to put back into the muscles what they are losing on a daily basis.
For now, if you have something shaped like a cylinder and made out of hard material (think of a large rolling pin you would use for pizza dough or something) place it under your leg and push down and roll it back and forth...this should massage the spasms out of your leg. It will hurt while you're doing it, but more so the type of pain that actually feels good, in the long run.
If the pain continues see your medical doctor.

Low potassium has been seen as a cause of this, getting that in food is the best way to add this to one's diet. If you wake up with that again try the following excercise:for a foot cramp, extend the feet and wiggle the toes. To relieve a leg cramp, slowly straighten and lift the leg with the toes pointed towards the head. I have had both and these do work. The latest thing to take for this seems to be: Take a B complex vitamin. Take about 7.5 mg of vit. b 12 and 90 mg of b6 as well as getting 15 mg of riboflavin. In studies done those amounts were useful and did not show side effects. Anyone that suffers from restless leg syndrome and frequent leg cramps should see a dr. to rule out serious disorders that may cause these symptoms. They include: kidney disease, diabetes, phlebitis, and parkinsons disease. I got this info from a pain book I have copyrighted in 2000. The book was written with input from doctors. I hope the excercises help you.

A lot of times when you have a cramp or tightening of a muscle, it is due to a low potassium level. Drink water, eat banana's or foods hi in potassium. Talk to your doctor and find out what you need to do. DO NOT take potassium pills without your doctor telling you to, as too much potassium can cause a heart attack. Check with your doctor because you could have like restless leg syndrome or something that could require more treatments!!!

Mineral imbalance can affect the muscles. Potassium may be low but often magnesium is deficient in CFS. Ask your doctor or other practitioner about a mineral anaylysis, or they may suggest some supplements. Sufficient water is really important as mentioned. Try massaging the muscle with a carrier oil (such as grapeseed or almond oil) with a few drops of lavender and rosemary if you have essential oils (not perfumed). Good nutrition is alway helpful. Check out some of the pain and other symptoms management at www.cfs-fm.com.

Any number of conditions can cause this, especially Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), neuropathies and Fibromyalgia to name a few. Irritation of a nerve can also cause this, especially the sciatic nerve.
If this happened more than once, call the doc, who'll be able to determine what needs to be done so that you can get a good night's sleep. Is it REGULARLY happening?
All any of us here can do is to give us our THOUGHTS on what it MIGHT be. Never having seen you, let your doc know it if happens again.

first ice your legs, then immediately take a hot bath. if this does not work then try some icy hot. make sure the icy hot doesn't get too high or you'll be hurting in other places as well.
