Dear Pet lovers.... I'm sorry. I know this site is only for questions and answers, but after reading some of the questions in here regarding sick animals, I feel so frustrated that I need to get this out, and hope that I may as a result, help or at least put a suffering animal out of it's misery.

This is a wake-up call that I hope to pass on to pet owners. I am so sick of seeing "what is wrong with my dog"... or "I think my cat is dying". What is wrong with you people????!!! If you had a child that was constantly vomiting, having spasms or bleeding from where ever, would you sit on the computer waiting to get an opinion from us? You have a breathing living soul in your hand who depends on you to help it. Please please stop asking ridiculous questions and take your sick pets to the vet immediately. I beg you!

Personally I think Yahoo should just outlaw veterinary questions. I also wish people would quit giving advice. I've seen veterinary advice that could actually kill a dog.

I totally agree with you Fiona!

I too have sat here wondering if some people are for real. I mean some must be really stupid to think that we can help an animal that has been throwing up for 2 days and they have not seen a vet or is pooping blood. Only a fool would not go to the vet if they actually cared about the animal. If it's that bad take it and think about the bill later.

That said I was very impressed with a young poster yesterday who was alone with a dog just rescued the day before that started having pups. The poster was scared to call 911 in case they got into trouble and could not locate the parents. With help from other posters he went and got a neighbors help. I do hope all ended up well for him/her as I was so impressed with that kid.

I also wish there was a place to archive answers as I'm sure 20 times a day someone posts about how to house break a puppy, how to stop a puppy nipping etc. It would be so helpful for them if there was a link where they could just check on things like this rather than them keep asking. Of course they could always just look back through the threads too, but especially new posters might not think of this. I myself am only learning here.

I agree, as a pet owner, mom and grandmother It is hard to keep reading over and over, it's not rocket science in most cases to know when to seek out a vet, if you are not sure if it's an emergency at least for a vet and ask, even after hours most phone books yellow pages will indicates which vet offer emergency services. IF your dog has a serious medical problem don't just ask for an appointment otherwise you may may have to wait several days to get it, explain what is wrong to the vet, more often than not they will squeeze your pet in if they feel it is serious, or do what I have done skip the phone call and rush the dog over to the vets, they often will do a quick look over of your pet, if serious enough they will fit your pet in right away.

A lot of these people that come on here with the stupid questions, probably do not have the money to afford a vet!! That is scary. If they give up their computer and internet, maybe they can save some money up! I sure hope that these people do not have children! I would hate to see how they treat their children with a medical problem! OMG! Wonderul post. And for Carrie, I hope that you don't have kids or pets!! How sad is it for someone to make a statement like yours!! These are people that think they can let these pets suffer, if you can not afford a vet, do not get an animal period!

You hit the nail on the head. I don't mind answering questions about how to's and the like, but when someone puts a question on here asking what to do if there is something wrong with their pet, I just want to wring their neck. My first call would be to my vet, if I noticed anything out of the ordinary with any of my animals. And my other concern with these people is why do they even have a pet if they don't have the foggiest how to take care of it?

I couldn't agree with you more. However, unfortunately some people don't regard their pets as highly as we do. Also, I'm thinking that some people here are just plain ignorant, and don't understand the seriousness of some of the ailments they describe. I'm hoping they do at least continue to ask all the knowledgable people here questions, and I hope they feel free to do so. Without you, they might not get any help. So, I hope with your valuable advice, they may actually seek help for their animals.

Hooray!!! Somebody who actually understands that nobody here is qualified to offer expert medical advice (there is hope for us yet)!
A good veterinarian would do a thorough, hands on examination of any pet and run lab tests as needed before diagnosing and treating any sick animal. You can't do that online!
A responsible pet owner would not waste time on the computer when a sick animal needs immediate medical attention.

I totally agree with you, BUT..

You also have to remember that many of these posters are kids (under 15) who have no way to take an animal to a vet and have parents that, for one reason or another, refuse.

Can you blame them for trying to seek a remedy or comfort for their pet in what limited ways they can, even if the only resource available to them is Yahoo Answers?

YOU GO GIRL UR SO RIGHT!I DON'T NO HOW ANYONE COULD LIVE WITH THERE SELF IF THE PET DIED BECAUSE THEY WERE DUMB WAITING FOR AN ANSWER!I REALLY THINK PEOPLE SHOULD STOP ASKING RIDICULOUS QUESTIONS THAT A VET CAN ANSWER AND IT ISN'T SO BAD TO ASK A VET FOR HELP EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE.

The only ridiculous questions is the one that someone is afraid to ask.
(read "intimidated")

So how do I train my cat to turn the faucet off after he gets a drink????

THERE IS!!!!!!
Look at the top of the page, it says "Search for questions: "
Just wish Yahoo would put it in red so people would see it.
