I think it is a hormone or stress issue. I get acne once a month when it's about time to start my cycle. It's always been that was and I'm 45. I also crave chocolate at the same time every month. I always get acne whether I eat the Chocolate or not, so I don't think theory of chocolate being the culprit is correct at all. Bloating and gas are also just part of PMS!!! I say this because I can eat chocolate other times of the month and do not break out with acne.

There's no direct link to acne, but I have heard this on occasion aswell.
I'm not a huge chocolate lover, but my GF is - she on the other hand never gets spots so I'd have to say that no, it generally doesn't CAUSE acne per-se.
What you may find is that when your body is run down or you are feeling stressed / upset /unhappy - you may start to eat chocolate more often - a side effect of feeling run down or depressed / unhappy is that your bodys ability to fight off the acne weakens - creating the impression that the chocolate is responsible!
I'll leave the diagnosis to you though ;-)

Research has not identified any components of chocolate that can either trigger acne or make existing acne worse.
Acne is most common in teenagers and young adults — it's the skins way of coping with surging testosterone levels in boys, and oestrogen in girls.
So if you like chocolate, you can eat it and not worry that it will do harm to your skin's sebum.
However, while it's great that chocolate doesn't give you pimples or cause acne, that's not to say that diet can't have an effect on skin, particularly if you're lazy about eating healthily.
"In particular, you need to avoid high processed, high GI foods like fizzy drinks, sugary foods and cakes. And take care of yourself in general," says Dr Cook.
So if you're worried about acne, it's not chocolate that you should be concerned about, look at avoiding processed, high GI and high sugar foods and you'll help keep your skin spot-free.

No it doesn't. So don't worry. B/c i asked my dad, who is a doctor, and he said no. So it's ok.You'll be fine. But it might be something else you're eating, drinking, doing, or are by all the time. So be a little careful on those things. Maybe see a doctor to see what you can eat that won't effect your acne. Good luck!

It depends. Chocolate bars with milk content may contribute to acne. It is not the chocolate itself that causes acne, but rather the milk with which the chocolate is mixed. Just be careful what you eat.

Well, that's one of the biggest food myths about acne. Chocolate DOES NOT make you have acne. It's just your skin. Either you need to take care of it better, or it's not your fault; it could be your genes as well...

Chocolate by itself will not cause acne, but eating too much sugar definitely can contribute to bad skin.
It also helps to make sure that you are drinking plenty of water

Apparently acne is caused by hormonal changes that occur mostly in young adulthood. I have never had it but love chocolate.
