How is it possible to conclude that Jesus is God from reading the New Testament? Why do people think that "Logos" in John 1:1 is the same as God as opposed to the mind of God?

I AM A CHRISTIAN YOU FREAKS!!! I'M ASKING HOW IT IS POSSIBLE TO CONCLUDE THAT JESUS (THE SON OF GOD) IS THE SAME AS GOD! THE CATHOLIC CATECHISM DOESN'T EVEN TEACH THIS!!! IT SAYS THE SON IS IN THE FATHER AND THE FATHER IS IN THE SON BUT THE FATHER AND SON ARE NOT EQUAL!!! GET A GRIP!!!

no wonder you're a mouthbreather! your entire cranial capacity is full of crap and probably your sinuses too. If you can't compare the untold millions killed by the atheistic governments of Stalin or Mao or fill in the blank to the untold millions of dollars and lives devoted to feeding the hungry , clothing the naked & befriending the prisoners in honor of their living Savior then you're blazing new territory for stupidity.you're a piss poor excuse for a joke......MB the grip is that you asked 2 questions and the lead question (single most disastrous!!!) is so infammatory (and frankly idiotic) that the second is almost invisible

The Catholic Church officially professes that Jesus is the only begotten Son of the Father. God from God, Light from Light, True God from True God. Begotten, not made. One in being with the Father. Through him all things were made.

Before he was incarnated, Jesus was eternally begotten of the same uncreated, godly "essence" as his Father, through a process of which we have no knowledge.

Same "essence" ... same God.

The Holy Spirit proceeds from both the Father and the Son, in a similar mysterious way.

Again, same "essence" ... same God.

This was further reinforced by the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, and that's why it has been a dogma of the church, ever since.

Three divine and distinct persons ... constituting the one true God.

Remember it was first perpetrated by Eastern man.
I agree that nowhere in the New Testament Jesus said that he was God and the Trinity is very confusing; however, this seemingly false ideology is far from being disastrous to Western Man. The ideology that Mohammad is a prophet of God is far more disastrous.

Jesus is the Son of God, not God himself. At John 10:36, he told his opposers: "I am God's Son."

Jesus and his Father are not equals. At John 17:3, Jesus called his Father the only true God. At John 14:28, Jesus said: "The Father is greater than I am."

At John 20:17, Jesus told Mary: "I am going to my God and your God." Was Jesus going to himself? No, he was going to his God.

In John 1:1, how could the Word be with God and be God at the same time? The NWT says it best that the Word was a god.

Why do you think it's disastrous?

Wouldn't you have to get past the first verse of John before you reach even a vague sort of conclusion about whether Jesus is God or not? Wouldn't you need more context than a single Greek word?

As one example of the bible saying Jesus is God, found a few verses later, how about John 1:14, which says:

"And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth"

1) Nope, I would say that would be atheism.
2) Because of Peter's confession, applying attributes that only God can have to Jesus, Jesus' "I AM" statements, Jesus' ability to forgive ALL sin, and the prologue of Gospel of John.
3) Because the Word WAS God and the Word was WITH God.

The whole bible being inspired by God and the god of Moses being the same as the God of Jesus rank right up there with yours. Jesus refutes them all in the Apocryphon of John. Ignorance is HELL!

You know, I give up! People are going to believe what ever they are going to believe! If someone believes that Jesus is God, then they'll probably should become a Sumerian. Maybe we should embrace some ancient Babylonian Religion (Nimrod's namely) since this whole concept of Son is God originates from there! (Look it up in Wikipedia, those who are serious.
